CR Model Summary
The Amanti is not up to the level of its better competitors, but it has its virtues. The ride is now less buoyant than in the past, and the soft suspension isolates the cabin from road imperfections. It still has clumsy handling with vague steering and lots of body roll, although the optional stability control keeps it secure at its handling limits. The 3.8-liter V6 we tested performed strongly, but its 18-mpg fuel economy was unexceptional. Interior fit and finish is impressive. Reliability has dropped to below average. Although it is a large car, the Amanti is priced similarly to some family sedans.
