All-time favorite car: 1966 Ford Mustang
Off the track:Stockburger lives in her native rural Connecticut, not far from the auto-test facility, with her husband, two children, and
various cats and dogs. She loves to garden and work around the house. Last summer, she built a garage for her 1967 Ford Mustang
convertible.
How she got into auto testing:After earning a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Connecticut at Storrs in 1988, Stockburger went to work
for Pirelli Armstrong Tire, where she tested tires for ride and handling. She later joined the Walbro Corp., a major supplier
of fuel-delivery systems, which is now part of the TI Automotive Group. In January 2000, Stockburger became one of two engineers
responsible for testing automobile tires at
Consumer Reports. Her passion for autos extends to the race track: Stockburger is a graduate of the nationally known Skip Barber Driving School.
Work at Consumer Reports:Stockburger spends a considerable amount of time at the auto-test facility doing what she knows best--evaluating tires. She
performs ride and handling assessments, measures tire noise, and judges how well the tires perform on snow and ice. She also
tests wet and dry braking performance. Her auto-testing responsibilities include evaluating a vehicle's interior noise levels
and interior accommodations and ergonomics. She also assesses certain safety-related features, including child-seat installation,
and helps evaluate ride and handling characteristics behind the wheel.
