Redesigned for 2008, the new Accord is a bit larger than the outgoing version and offers stronger engines and a roomier rear
seat. You can choose a 180- or 200-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 273-hp, 3.5-liter V6. The V6 has a cylinder-deactivation
system that saves fuel by letting the engine run on three, four, or six cylinders, depending on the conditions. Honda says
that fuel economy will be the same as the previous model with the four-cylinder engine and slightly better with the V6, and
that emissions will be lessened.
CR's take. Our first impression during this 2008 new cars review is that the new Accord provides a similar driving character to the
previous version, which is a nice balance of comfort, ride, and handling. The longer length allows about two inches more rear
leg room. The hybrid version is being discontinued, although a clean-diesel engine is expected in 2009.
