About - DieHard Gold 50665 (North)

The DieHard Gold 50665 (North) is part of the car battery test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, car battery models like the Gold 50665 (North) are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Life:
Life test measures how a battery endures repeated charge-and-discharge cycles at hot-climate engine-compartment temperatures. The more cycles endured while maintaining a higher voltage, the higher the score.

Reserve capacity:
Reserve capacity estimates how long batteries can run a car if the charging system fails.

CCA:
CCA performance reflects voltage at our load of half the average claimed CCA for each group size after cranking for 15 seconds at 0ยบ F. We charged batteries at the 14.5 volts that vehicles typically supply, rather than the higher voltage that manufacturers use. Batteries charged at the lower voltage met BCI voltage standards for a fully charged battery.

Comment:
This is just the battery I was looking for since my car is always parked outside in a central New England area.As the battery is in the engine compartment when it can get hot (rather than the rear seat, I wanted a sealed battery. It has a high initial rating. My biggest issue is that it is sold by [@] as they charged $20 just to undo two cables, check the new battery and put the cables on it. Although they advertised a $12 charge, the actual fee was $20. I should have tried to do it myself.

Bought battery and after a month it burned out my alternator....took it back to Sears and they tested battery. Battery was producing way to many amps, so it burned out my alternator on my F-150. Cost me $150.00 to replace. They gave me a new battery. After a year I have had to have the truck jumped on 3 occasions. Went to Sears and they said they would have to test battery, but that would cost me $20.00. Had enough....time to go with Interstate!

Purchased in 2008. After a year, had to replace due to a bad cell. Was replaced free under warranty. Replacement went bad. Went to [@] for a replacement and they said the warranty goes back to the original purchase, so I would have to pay 50% for a new battery. For [$], I wish the batteries would last to their promised life span.
