About - EverStart Maxx-65S (South)

The EverStart Maxx-65S (South) is part of the car battery test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, car battery models like the Maxx-65S (South) are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Life:
Life test measures how a battery endures repeated charge-and-discharge cycles at hot-climate engine-compartment temperatures. The more cycles endured while maintaining a higher voltage, the higher the score.

Reserve capacity:
Reserve capacity estimates how long batteries can run a car if the charging system fails.

CCA:
CCA performance reflects voltage at our load of half the average claimed CCA for each group size after cranking for 15 seconds at 0º F. We charged batteries at the 14.5 volts that vehicles typically supply, rather than the higher voltage that manufacturers use. Batteries charged at the lower voltage met BCI voltage standards for a fully charged battery.

Comment:
Contrary to CR's Best Buy rating, this battery should not even be listed - it's a horrible, just bad battery.
I went thru two of them (2 separate vehicles), one lasted exactly 8 months and the other about 14 months.
Before buying, always made sure to get the latest mfg date and even checked the two cells were filled with liquid to proper level. I drive my light-truck at least 3-4 days/week for at least 20 mins continuously (so there is always enough time for the battery to be recharged).
Yes, there is a 3-yr free replacement warranty(which is great) but the issue of reliability has become more important after being stranded twice. If you add the time spent on exchanging/replacing your defective battery (and all the testing and paperwork along with it), and most importantly, the already built-in lack of trust on this battery, truly it is not worth replacing it every few months although it is free. I sure will never buy this battery again as it failed me twice. Consumer Reports ratings on batteries have not helped me any and have subsequently lost my trust on their evaluations. Not happy at all !!!

Comment:
I put 2 of these batteries in my F250 7.3 Liter Diesel pickup truck (the truck has 2 batteries). The batteries have a 3 year full replacement warranty, and they lasted 5 years and 3 months, before the first one had to be replaced.
I never had any problem with either battery during their 5+ year service life.

Comment:
I purchased this battery in 2007 for my Ford Excursion. It performed well in the Texas summer heat as well as extreme cold in Wyoming and Colorado winters. I don't expect 7 years from any car battery, but can't complain. Even better, if you need to warranty this product a Walmart is never far away.
