The Kirkland Signature 12866 is part of the car battery
test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, car battery
models like the 12866 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.
Life test measures how a battery endures repeated charge-and-discharge cycles at hot-climate engine-compartment temperatures. The more cycles endured while maintaining a higher voltage, the higher the score.
Reserve capacity estimates how long batteries can run a car if the charging system fails.
CCA performance reflects voltage at our load of half the average claimed CCA for each group size after cranking for 15 seconds at 0º F. We charged batteries at the 14.5 volts that vehicles typically supply, rather than the higher voltage that manufacturers use. Batteries charged at the lower voltage met BCI voltage standards for a fully charged battery.

Installed (2) Kirkland #12866 group 65 batteries in my diesel powered pick up September 2009. In the past 4 years since installation I have put 40,000 miles on the truck (run the truck about once a month mainly used to haul a 28' travel trailer). I have had no problems starting the truck summer or winter in the central Texas area with these batteries.

Costco Drops Kirkland for Interstate
Bad Move For Costco
I went to Costco in Palm Beach Gardens, FL today (11-23-12) to purchase a car battery. Much to my dislike, they now carry the Interstate brand. I asked management how I could purchase a Kirkland brand and was told they have gone 100% with Interstate batteries.

Thought that Consumer Reports personnel and customers should be aware of this. Not quite as advertised.
Went to Costco Greensboro, NC yesterday to buy two Kirkland Signature 12866 batteries for my Excursion. The membership cost me $55.00, and the batteries which CR says should cost [$] were actually [$] each. More significantly the CCA which CR says should be 900 is actually 850.
