Comment:
This unit worked very well and I was very please with it till one day it wouldn't turn on. I contacted Garmin and they said, oh yeah, we know about that, its a software bug. We have a fix for that... So why didn't they inform me ahead of time before it failed on me? I went through the trouble of registering my unit with them, so they had all my information. Terrible customer service. Their fix didn't work either. I have to swap it out with them which will take 3 weeks! Nice unit - while it was working. Terrible customer service.

Comment:
I owned a Megellan previously for over 7 years. It was hard to hear inside the vehicle, too small a screen to see well amongst other reasons. The technology has vastly improved over time. It was time to update. The Garmin'50' offered vast improvements, as most other GPS's do too. I chose the 5 screen for better viewing while driving. Much easier to see. The voice direction level is much louder and much easier to hear over road noise. I like the free map update , although you can only do it 4 x's a year. But that's enough for me. I found the start instructions easy to follow ,plus Garmin will give you the 1st map update FREE if you register it within 15 days on line. The 'touch' screen is nice to move the map pic around the screen. I don't need the traffic updates or the Pedestrian ability. My Garmin came with a USB cable for the PC down loading. The mount looks OK but I don't use it in my SUV. Instead I keep in tucked in a cup holder beside me. Just easier and it dosen't block my vision. All in all, I find it very easy to use and to find locations. It has not let me down yet, for the month I've used it around town, testing it out. I think It'll be fine when I'm traveling in areas I'm not familiar with.
