Comment:
Purchased at Costco, so its going back. I had to spend about an hour on hold to get the free lifetime maps activated. Then it would not download any maps. Another hour with costomer service and now the device will not work at all. It seems the driver is bad and cannot get to uninstall, so I went to another computer to try again, still no help. It will not get past the opening page.

While it worked, it has good display, but just a little slow. Would not buy again. Since it installed a bad driver on my computer that will not uninstall that means I won't be able to use any TOMTOM until I get a new computer.

Comment:
This is a great looking, light unit. Resolution on the 6 screen is 800x600, higher than anything I've seen. Makes for a very crisp, clear display. Acquires satellites and routes very quickly. There are, however in my opinion, two very serious problems with a device in this class. Inexplicably, there is no Bluetooth support and there is no compass. These are two features I use all the time. It seems as though Tomtom put all their money into the display and left out two critical features. The specs and features data on their site is confusing and leads one to believe that this model has Bluetooth, based on data for the 1535, which I also own. If you can deal with the 1605 not having these two functions, you will be very happy with owning one of these.

Cons

Comment:
It speaks too frequently. If you are simply passing by an exit to the freeway it may decide to tell you to keep going straight. Not just once, several times. I had to turn off the voice.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
