I don't want to change winter/ summer tires
and think this is so far not a compromise.
With a phone ap noise meter they are quieter than Mich s all seasons that came stock on my Volvo. they
improved handling by being a little firmer too.
I measured a few treads and found this has 12/32
tread depth versus competing tires 9-11. Hopefully
this adds life and offsets higher price. I bought
these for hydro plane resistance 1st and am impressed with over all qualities.

I use these tires on a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI. I travel extensively cross country as well as in New York City locally. I have found them to be very competent tires in dry conditions, excellent in wet conditions, and decent in snow & ice - certainly better than any all season tire I have ever used in similar conditions.

My one caveat: these tires do not seem to take well to potholes - In about 15k miles and 9 months, I have already broken the sidewalls on two tires, causing a bubble on one tire and a flat on another. If you plan on using these tires on really rough city roads at high speeds (e.g. NYC), you may want to consider a buying a road hazard warranty. That being said - Nokian was really great about helping me out with replacements at a signifigant discount.

I can't say that I have noticed any extra noise or vibration compared with all-season tires, although mine are still fairly new. As for fuel economy, they are very good for a winter tire - I had no noticible decrease in economy from my old all-season tires.

Overall, I can strongly recommend this tire to anyone who will have to drive in some winter conditions and don't mind spending a few extra dollars to get premium tire.

I have had all-weather before (winter snowflake tread pattern with harder rubber compound) so decided to try these, to avoid the winter/summer changeover. I drive a lot of snowy & icy roads in central BC, both on highways and off-road to backcountry winter activities. The snow & ice traction is really poor, I'm very surprised to see the relatively good ratings in the CR tests. In my Subaru, I was usually the slowest person on winter roads, and was driving at my fairly average comfort level. Add to this is the noise... for the first 10,000 km or so they were great, but then they started howling, and it just got loader. Now at about 50,000 km they sound like a mud bogger, I routinely wear ear plugs. I finally switched last winter to dedicated winters (Nokian Hakkepelita) and could not believe the difference. Now, driving at exactly the same comfort level, I am one of the faster drivers on the road. My wife has run-flat WRs on her Mini Cooper, and has similar unimpressive winter performance. There may be reasons to buy these, but winter traction is not one of them.
