I bought a near-new Xterra in 2009 and put on these firestone winter tires for our annual trip to the hills north of Montreal for Christmas. These got me through all the snow in Canada except for one ice-snow storm when we used my mominlaw's jeep with studded tires to get up her steep ice-covered driveway.

Returning to the U.S we faced the DC's snowmageddon and were often the only vehicle moving - zipping past crawling police cars or other SUVs and trucks.

The gas mileage is about 10-15% worse than non-snow tires but there was no performance or noise penalty. I frankly do not understand the low ratings - I bought these because of the low price (<$100 each) but they have been awesome - this was our 3rd winter with them on.

Installed on my 2006 Subaru Forester, they handle wet roads very well and light snow, still have not had any major snow to test them. They are loud at highway speeds and tend to be rough riding first thing in the morning.
