The Cruze is Chevrolet's mainstream small sedan. It feels solid and substantial, handles nicely, and has a firm but controlled ride. The base 1.8-liter four-cylinder and the quieter, more refined up-level turbocharged 1.4-liter both returned the same unimpressive 26 mpg overall. An Eco trim is also available, but improves overall fuel economy by just one mpg. The well-finished cabin feels spacious up front, even for tall drivers, but it's cramped in the rear. Noise levels are fairly good for a small sedan. Crash-test results are impressive. Reliability has improved to average. A diesel version arrives this summer.
