Fire danger found in toasters, deep-fat fryers, and electric grills
Fire danger found in small electric appliances from Hamilton Beach, JCPenny, and QVC/Tristar.
HAZARDS  Three small electric appliances from Hamilton Beach, JCPenny, and QVC/Tristar were recalled.
Three countertop appliances have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission because the small appliances all pose a fire hazard.

The largest recall includes 482,000 Hamilton Beach and Proctor Silex two- and four-slice toasters because they can remain "on" and energized even after toast pops up, and could cause nearby items to ignite. JCPenney recalled 27,000 deep-fat fryers (model 22016) with faulty heating elements, and QVC and Tristar recalled 13,500 Hulk Hogan's Ultimate Grill electric grills (model PZ-3012) because cooking oil or spray can ignite when applied to the grill.

At least three burns have been reported in connection with the fryers and grills. The appliances were sold at retail stores and online between May 2007 and February 2008, for $13 to $100, depending on the item.

If you own the toaster or fryer, stop using it immediately. If you have the grill, do not use any cooking oil or spray on it at any time.

Contact Hamilton Beach at 800-574-6800 or at www.hamiltonbeach.com, or Proctor Silex at www.proctorsilex.com for a complete list of model numbers included in the recall and a free replacement toaster; JCPenney at 888-333-6063 or www.jcp.com for a full refund; and QVC at 800-367-9444 or Tristar at 800-718-5135 for a revised instruction manual with warnings.
