About - Oppo BDP-103

The Oppo BDP-103 is a 3D-capable Blu-ray player with 4K upscaling of 1080p content for use with an Ultra HD TV. It is a "universal" model that plays not only Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs, but also DVD-audio and SACD high-resolution audio discs. This model--which comes with a Wi-Fi adapter for wireless connection to your home network--has access to online content, including streaming movies and TV shows from Netflix, YouTube, Vudu and Pandora.

The BDP-103 has 7.1-channel audio outputs, and 2 HDMI inputs, including one that's MHL compatible, which allows content from a mobile device to play on the TV while the device is charging, and 2 HDMI outputs. Its DLNA certification lets you view media stored on a compatible computer, phone, or other mobile device also connected to your home network.

This Blu-ray player measures 3.1 inches high by 16.9 inches wide by 13.8 inches deep.

Comment:
I suspect that most DVD players sound alike and that most current models have excellent video reproduction. What sets this player apart is a relatively fast load time, easy visible information screen, good function controls on the unit, multiple outputs (both digital and analog), very solid construction, and good customer support.

Comment:
Hands down the best player I ever owned. When you owned other brands you realize the little things that make this player exceptional. For example, if you turn off the player without first depressing stop or pause, you have the option to playback the disk where you left off after you power back up the player. You can choose to view time played or or time remaining when you hit Info. When you hit eject from the front panel, the player automatically comes on. When you hit power from the front panel, the player quickly turns off. Just great software design. It has weight so it does not move when you press a front panel button. It's these little things that make the player a pleasure to use. I just wish it had Amazon streaming since I have a Prime account. Hopefully that comes in the future with a firmware upgrade. I purchased the player with the Darbee feature, but being a video purist, I don't use the feature.

Comment:
It performs it main functions perfectly, and it can connect to a network, to stream music and movies. With a couple more streaming options, the Oppo would be the perfect streaming device (although you can get the ROKU stick to expand these options, at a discounted price, directly from Oppo.)
The only con I would say is the wireless connection, which is not as good as in other devices I tested from the same location. I have mine wired, so that is not a problem.
CR's features are incomplete. The Oppo has two HDMI inputs (not one. )Also, if you want, you can use both HMDI outputs, to send audio and video signals separately.
Finally, the looks of this device, if that concerns you, screams quality. The packaging is excellent.
