Comment:
I primarily use this to listen to Pandora on my Samsung Galaxy S phone in my office. The ambient noise is a bit loud. The head phones block out the ventalation noise and some of the deep machine hum from various office equipment near me.

In my office environment, if I switch the power on and off, there is a decernable decrease in ambient noise, but these will not create silence. The in ear products or professional class over the ear products do a much better job of that.

The in ear models are much better for noise cancelation, and really should not be used for comparison to the on ear and over ear because they are superior. The problem is, the in ear models increase your risk of damage to your hearing, and in my case, they are annoying because the often fall out.

If you do not want an in-ear solution, this is a solid product comparable to any of the options that are price competitive.

I exclude the $300+ over the ear models in this assessment. The Bose and Dr Dre models are very good, but they are almost twice as heavy and belong in the low end of pro audio or audiophile markets, not as comparable consumer products.

The products on the market, including this one, offer various claims about the amount of noise canceled, either in db or percent, but there is not consistency in how they arrive at these numbers, which will vary depending on the volume, pitch, and harmonics the devices are canceling out. Because the industry is not consistent about how they arrive at the specs, it is very difficult to compare items without trying them. It would be helpful if Consumer Reports included an objective metric at a couple volumes and at a high pitch, low pitch, and with or without pulsating harmonics. That kind of information would provide an objective basis that is stronger than the opinion dots presently shown.

I am pleased with my purchase, but must admit I would have been disappointed had I paid the full list price.

Comment:
Just purchased the product and tried it out for 30 minutes to test under different noise conditions. My main interest in this product was the noise-cancelling feature. Looked like great value. in reality, the noise-cancelling feature barely cancels any noise. Extremey disappointed.
