About - Sony HT-CT150

The Sony HT-CT150 is part of the home theater system test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, home theater system models like the HT-CT150 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Sound quality:
Sound quality represents tonal accuracy and ability to reproduce fine sonic detail of the front speakers, subwoofer, center-channel speaker, and surround speakers. Sound quality judgments are made with the system optimized using its own auto speaker set-up function (if so equipped), and with its own tone controls and/or pre-set tone settings (if any) adjusted for most balanced sound.

Ease of use:
Ease of use indicates how easy it is to set up the system and use controls on front panel and remote.

Versatility:
Versatility score is based on the presence or absence of useful features. The inputs and outputs shown are on the receiver. (Does not include outputs on the video player, if that is separate.)

Comment:
The HT-CT150 is a good, basic system that improved our viewing experience by providing richer and clearer sound as compared to the internal TV speakers.
The Bravia Sync worked better than expected considering the confusing description in the manual. I have a Sony BD player attached through HDMI to the HT-CT150 which is then attached to a Sony TV in the HDMI port that used to have the BD connection. When the TV is turned on, the HT-CT150 wakes up and I can control the volume with the TV remote. I connected the TV back to the HT-CT150 using the included digital optical cord to permit listing to the devices still connected to the TV (cable box, video game) and can still control the volume of the HT-CT150 using the TV remote.
As I have found with all of my Sony products, the remote is a mess, with many similar sized, unintuitive, multifunctioned buttons, that make me feel that I am missing out on some exciting features since I can't figure out or remember what they do.
One unexpected drawback of the HT-CT150 is that the display, remote sensor, and input/output connections are all on the subwoofer, which means that the subwoofer has to be in a prominent place in your TV setup instead of being tucked away in a corner of the room. I have sufficient room for the unit next to the TV stand but those with a wall mounted TV or a shelved component cabinet might not have a tidy spot for it.
For the ease of setup, the Bravia Sync, the improved sound over TV, and a decent price, the HT-CT150 is a good choice for upgrading your viewing experience.

Comment:
Using it for almost a year, I appreciate the ease of use provided by the Bravia Sync technology. The seamless blending of technologies when switching inputs be it the BD player, PS3, TV or SAT box is automatic and idiot proofed. CR's sound bar characteristic evaluation is very accurate so expect a good sounding TV like speaker that satisfies a 500 square foot room. In my application, tones are accurate and sound good to me in all modes besides analog. Using analog input sounds seems softer so I have to turn up the gain 10 percent higher in this mode.

Comment:
If you have all Sony products with Bravia Sync, this products seamlessly links up with them. Easy to setup, unobtrusive and the sound is clear. I'm able to control the sound with my Tivo remote.
