About - Canon EOS 60D

The EOS 60D is an 18-megapixel camera with a kit lens that has a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28.8mm-88mm. It has a live-view 3-inch LCD (1,040,000 pixels). It also includes a through-the-lens viewfinder, which is helpful when composing in bright light.

Because it accepts interchangeable lenses, and includes a mirror and a through-the-lens viewfinder, we consider this model an SLR.

The camera's kit lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5. The camera's shutter speed range is 30 seconds to 1/8000 of a second.

The EOS 60D stores photos and video on SD/SDHC memory cards but has no on-board storage. It captures images as JPG or RAW files at a top resolution of 5184 x 3456 and full HD-resolution video as MOV files at a top resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 25 fps.

Like most digital cameras, this model comes with a proprietary rechargeable battery.

This SLR has 9 autofocus points. It also includes 3 flash modes (for the on-board flash), 6 exposure modes, and an exposure compensation control that can be set at +/-5 EV. The image stabilization system for this camera is lens-based.

The EOS 60D measures 5.9 inches wide by 4.3 inches high by 5.9 inches deep, and weighs 36 ounces (2.3 pounds) (with battery, memory card, and strap).

About This Brand

Canon is the market leader in point-and-shoots, with an extensive line of models, which are known as PowerShots. Its budget line, the A series, is made up of compacts and subcompacts. Canon's subcompacts are known as SD ELPHs. Its SX-series are mostly super zooms and come in various sizes and include smaller or larger feature sets. Canon has the D-series compact, which it claims are waterproof and shockproof. Its high-end series, the S and G lines, include special modes and manual features, such as the ability to shoot RAW files and to focus manually. The EOS Rebel series helped to define budget SLRs. Other SLRs include a host of pro and more-advanced consumer models, including models that have very large, full-frame sensors. Canon also offers a wider selection of lenses than most brands.

Comment:
Many thousands of exposures over one year, on a cruise, two graduations, multiple ski areas and other family and nature outings. I've learned to use Clear all camera settings a lot, so I can feel free to use various features, but not leave it set that way and forget (like accidentally use Tungsten color-comp outdoors or with flash). Great outdoor results by setting auto-bracketing, high-speed continuous drive, and shooting bursts of 3; then later, you save the best one and throw out the other two. Only complaint is that HD video auto focus is slow, and while it's hunting in and out, it's recording blurry video, but you can edit that out later. There's a way to use the quick auto-focus, but it has to switch out of LCD preview mode, and it doesn't work when actively shooting video and your subject moves. At 1080 lines, 2-3 minutes of video uses 1GB of memory.

Comment:
A very nice, DSLR camera rich with nearly every feature you may want as photo enthusiast. Most common features are quickly accessible from the dials and buttons on the body, however using the menus to access more advanced settings and features can get a bit confusing. Autofocus works very well.

The bundled 18-135mm lens is good for someone starting out with DSLRs, but you will quickly find yourself wanting to do more for which this lens is not suitable. For example, it will not allow for great extreme close up (Macro) photos.

This is a great camera that allows you to upgrade and expand as your skills increase.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Canon EOS 60D Black SLR Digital Camera
12/11/2012
Strength
same sensor so the picture quality is going to be great
Weakness
Its not as light as I expected
I love cannon with excellent 3:2, 3 inch, 1.04 million dot screen. The T4i is supposedly better with video. They have the same sensor so the picture quality is going to be great. I was on the fence between the 60d and the T4i. They are also about the same price, so the difference came in the features. But Its not as light as I expected.
