I bought this on a cyber-Monday sale last December.
I bought it expressly to function as an enterprise backup server running open-source Bacula on CentOS linux.
It does that well. I was able to shrink the 1TB original Windows 7 Professional partition so that I have an 800GB Linux backup to disk directory. It's a dual boot system, and I can toggle between having a fast, 2nd Windows PC or the linux backup server.
For those interested in the benefits of having your own home backup server, I have a video on youtube.

http://youtu.be/4zz5ruNQ2jw

Only drawbacks are lack of a blu-ray dvd (an option) and could use more storage (an option).

Cheers,

Brian

I really should return this as based on my experience there are problems with the components that cause the desktop not to be able to wake up the monitor or to go to sleep.

Dell Tech Support is terrible, and I spent three weeks waiting for a part to be delivered after having spent 4-5 hours talking to at least three Dell Pro Support people.

One guy told me it must be monitor (Dell, too) and almost had me contact Newegg (where I bought it). A real run-around.

Plus I kept getting prompts to do a Back-up of my files, and when I finally did, my external drive was completely erased. (It had all my files, as I did not want to go through Dell's Transfer program). There was no warning before that this would happen. A real bummer.

Dell's warranty begins the day they deliver the PC, not the day you receive it. After three weeks not being able to use the XPS8700, you'd think Dell would be generous and far-sighted enough to extend the warranty. No wonder Dell is no longer the #1 in the PC desktop/laptop anymore.
