Comment:
I use this in my office and also bring my personal receipts into the office to shred. The shredder is quiet and efficent. It's easy to clean out and hasn't stopped due to clogging even though I'll go through a 2 pile of papers to shred. It has 2 power switches that need to be turned on as a safeguard. I haven't had any problems with it. I'm quite happy with the purchase.

Comment:
This unit got rave ratings from Consumer Reports, but the unit is so touching, it spits paper back out if you try to load 4 sheets or more at a time. It doesn't have much cutting power and even has a a burning smell if used more than 5 minutes at a time. <br />If you have alot of paper to shred, this thing is a pain in the backside to use. It's too slow and too picky about what it will grind up.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The best on the market
12/14/2008
Strength
Shreds everything and then some.
Weakness
Absolutely none that I can find.
I purchased this shredder after reading all the other reviews, and I love it! I use it in my home office and it rocks!! Cds, credit cards, and 12pgs no problem. The thickness meter is really cool and the safety sensors work perfectly.

Fellowes A Name To Trust
06/18/2008
Strength
anti-jam & safety features, power and capacity, quiet
Weakness
heavy
I bought this model after a lot of searching and comparison. I had another Fellowes model I had finally died after more than a decade of hard use.I use it mostly for personal/home office use. It is proably over-kill for a small user. Since Arizona has the leading incidence of identity theft, I shred everything with any personal information, even junk mail. Since I don't want to open all that garbage up just to shred it I needed something with a large capacity and the PS-79Ci fits that bill well. I can drop a lot of junk mail into it unopened and it will power through it.When the basket is full it tells you so you don't try to jam too much in the bin. I don't really like the hooks that are used to hold the trash bag in place; they don't seem to hold the bag all that well. The anti-jam feature has worked flawlessly so far. It will not allow me to overload it. One weakness I found is that with the anti-jam and other safety features is that the payload needs to be inserted further into opening before shredding. For example, something as small as a business card needs to inserted long-wise in order for the shredder to start. It is very quiet when compared with my previous shredder. I can use the shredder even when someone is on the telephone in the same room. The biggest drawback is the shredder is heavy, fortunately it has casters so you can push it around fairly easily.

Great shredder for home/office use
06/03/2008
Strength
Operates quietly. Safe sense technology senses finger close to shredding area and shuts off. Jam proof by preventing feeding too many papers.
Weakness
Not suitable for shredding large volumes at the same time as it heats up.
This is a great shredder for home/office with light to medium duty usage. The shredder operates very quietly. I like the safe sense technology that senses when your finger is too close to the shredding area and shuts off automatically. This feature is especially helpful when you have kids at home who are very adamant about helping you with shredding. It prevents feeding too many papers at the same time thereby preventing jams. I did find that it heats up if you use it for about 10-15 min at a stretch. When it does heat up it shuts off the shredder and doesn't let you use it until it cools down.
