In the format wars for high-definition DVD movies, one standard has finally emerged victorious: Blu-ray. And while you'll still find one model in our DVD player Ratings (available to subscribers only) that plays the now-defunct HD DVD standard, Blu-ray player are gaining consumer attention. These high-definition players—like the disappearing HD DVD players—can play your existing library of standard definition DVD movies as well has HD discs. More good news: The number of Blu-ray movie discs are growing and prices for Blu-ray players are dropping sharply.

  • Sony BDP-S550, $330

One of the lowest-priced models with BD-Live Internet connectivity and BonusView picture-in-picture. Early tests suggest that it performs well, with fine picture quality.

All of the following previously tested models have BonusView. The Panasonic supports BD-Live and the Sony can eventually be upgraded to support it.
