I have had 2 kindles. My first Kindle was purchased in August 2011. I had to replace it in December 2011. The December replacement was under warranty and refurbished. This Kindle failed in January, 2013. One day it was working fine the next day it had lines in the screen. Amazon said I must have dropped it but it was in my PC case all the time and had a cover. The only option was purchase of another refurbished unit for only 3 months coverage. In my opinion not a good investment if you cannot even keep operating 2 of these kindles in less than 2 years. Amazon also was strict in their customer policy without questioning the fact they may have a QC issue.

Cost of ebooks is higher than hardcovers thanks to publishing houses. If I was aware of this when I has buying my Kindle I would not have and would not recommend an ereader to anyone unless it is compatible with borrowing from your library.
