Comment:
I upgraded to this unit over a year ago, having previously had a Kindle Keyboard. I read two or three books a week, which download in seconds. The dimable backlight is superb, the touch screen ultra-sensitive. On very rare occasions the backlight fails to come on when the unit is awakened by opening the optional leather case, but a quick reset solves the problem. I will probably upgrade to the 2nd gen unit, because it has several additional features, like instant access to footnotes, but since Amazon will probably be offering discounts on this one, you can't go wrong.

I've never owned an e-reader befor, but, when Amazon announced the second generation Paperwhite, I had to give it a try. This thing is amazing. I don't know how I ever got by without it. Navigation is a snap; the home button is activated via the touch screen, and you have immediate access to your entire Amazon library. The reflected light is very easy on your eyes, making it easy to read for extended periods of time. But the best part is the search capability. I'm currently reading George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire n-ology, and it's really easy to forget by book 5 some character introduced back in book 1. Just touch a name, and you can search your entire library for occurrences of that name. I've made extensive use of the search ability, and expect I'll be using it even more when the concluding volumes are finally released.

I'm sorry to say I had to return it. The navigation was next to impossible. There is only one button to turn on/off but no way to get back to Home. The best part was the wonderful customer service who gave me an RMA to return it.
