About This Brand

Samsung is a market leader and top-tier TV manufacturer. It is often an innovator, as with its use of LED backlighting in LCD TVs, and was one of the first TV brands to offer 3D TVs and Smart TVs. Samsung offers a wide range of LCD TVs and is one of only a few brands that still sells plasma TVs. Its TVs are distributed widely in national and regional retailers, and in mass-market and discount outlets. In addition to LCD and plasma TVs, Samsung also sells DLP-based home theater front projectors.

Home theatre
The most important feature to me was picture quality. It is part of our basement home theatre. I have this Plasma setup with a good surround sound system and I have no interest in 3D. I also have an OPPO BDP-103 Universal player(another recommended product)that has all the Smart features I need. The pre-sales support from Samsung was prompt and detailed. This model was on clearance and a very attractive price as a result.

When shopping for a new TV, I didn't consider plasma initially since I have a moderately bright living room. I purchased a 55 Samsung LED (6300 Series) and while I was initially impressed with the picture, the off-angle viewing was terrible (black levels washed out quickly once you left direct center) and the dreaded Soap Opera Effect was pronounced-especially on panning scenes. Picked up this TV and put them side-by-side and needless to say, the 6300 LED was returned the next day! No comparison--picture quality is AMAZING!! Best purchase decision ever.
