About - Samsung UN46EH5300

The Samsung UN46EH5300 is a 46-inch LCD HDTV with a native resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p). It has edge-mounted LED backlighting. That allows the panel to be extremely thin and also uses less energy than conventional fluorescent backlighting. Many new TVs now have a higher frame rate that's designed to reduce the motion blur that's a shortcoming of LCD technology.

This model is Internet-enabled and can access online content, including streaming movie services. It has an Ethernet jack for connecting to your home network via a cable. This TV is also Wi-Fi-capable, so you can connect it to your home network wirelessly. Its DLNA certification enables you to view digital photos stored on a compatible computer, phone, or other mobile device also connected to your home network.

There are 4 HD-capable inputs: 3 HDMI and 1 component-video, which can also be used as composite-video. It also has 2 USB ports, which may allow you to plug in a thumb drive or memory card reader so you can play the stored photos, videos, and music on the TV.

The Samsung UN46EH5300 measures 26.7 inches high by 41.7 inches wide by 9.7 inches deep, including its base. The panel itself is 3.7 inches thick including any protrusions, and the screen has a matte finish. The bezel framing the screen is gloss black.

The warranty on this TV covers parts/labor for 12/12 months, respectively. Related models in this series include the UN32EH5300; UN40EH5300; UN50EH5300.

About This Brand

Samsung is a market leader and top-tier TV manufacturer. It is often an innovator, as with its use of LED backlighting in LCD TVs, and was one of the first TV brands to offer 3D TVs and Smart TVs. Samsung offers a wide range of LCD TVs and is one of only a few brands that still sells plasma TVs. Its TVs are distributed widely in national and regional retailers, and in mass-market and discount outlets. In addition to LCD and plasma TVs, Samsung also sells DLP-based home theater front projectors.

This is the worst product that I have ever purchased that has been recommended by CR. It has been the worst computerized technology I have ever owned. I do 3rd level computer support for a fortune 500 company and I am having a hard time. I can't imagine what regular folks feel like.

It appears that CR does not rate the smart part of Smart TVs so I would like to ask CR to please start.

We bought this TV specifically to use online video services such as Netflix. It worked fine for two months but since then we have had no end of grief. Samsung support service seems setup for hardware support but not for supporting the Smart software. The support is endless loops of going no-where (no escalation possible to smart team). After spending time on the CNet forums it appears this is a very common issue with Samsung (that their Smart TV part doesn't work). I wish I could return this TV and get a Smart TV with a reputation at being good at the smart part.

The first thing I was pleased with was the ease of set-up right out of the box. I purchased this in combination with a Samsung WiFi Blu-ray Player. The TV automatically went into the set-up wizard and was extremely easy to follow.

The screen with all the icons panicked me at first, but it is extremely easy to maneuver through. We have old fashioned (yet digital) antenna TV (yes, I know.... shocking it still exists), but the set-up found and locked in all the channels that the signal picks up - I didn't have to do a thing. I set up my Netflix and Pandora accounts with ease and was thrilled that I can use my WiFi Blue-ray on other TV's and still download movies in my room since the TV has WiFi as well.

Netflix streaming is flawless. Super fast and no glitches. I can easily switch from Netflix to DVD's to TV. I have not played around with all the other options and icons on the TV, so I am unable to comment on the SmartHub part of the TV.

The Picture quality is brilliant. This TV is located in a small room, so the 46 looks as gorgeous as the 60 does in the living room. I currently do not have external speakers or a stereo hooked up and I am more than pleased with the sound coming right from the TV speakers. Surround sound I'm sure would greatly improve the experience if you are watching action movies - but hey, we still have antenna's, what do you expect here....

The quality WAY exceeds my expectations based on the price -- so I have to go big on the value of this purchase. I would happily buy another Samsung product and recommend this one highly!!!

Comment:
Very good picture, great black levels for an LED LCD TV. This led LCD is extremely bright, use the standard settings if used in a bedroom or it will produce too much light. I have never noticed the blurring the review noted. It's direct lit led, not edge lit as noted in the review. Direct lit provides very even screen brightness. The apps are excellent and include HBO GO, amazon, Netflix, Hulu amount others.
