About - Samsung UN55ES8000

The Samsung UN55ES8000 is a 55-inch LCD HDTV with a native resolution of 1920x1080 (1080p). This TV has a 3D mode that requires the use of special glasses to see three-dimensional images. It has edge-mounted LED backlighting. That allows the panel to be extremely thin and also uses less energy than conventional fluorescent backlighting. Rather than the basic 60Hz, it has a faster 240Hz frame rate, a feature designed to reduce motion blur.

This model is Internet-enabled and can access online content, including streaming movie services. It has an Ethernet jack for connecting to your home network via a cable. This TV is also Wi-Fi-capable, so you can connect it to your home network wirelessly. Its DLNA certification enables you to view digital photos stored on a compatible computer, phone, or other mobile device also connected to your home network.

There are 5 HD-capable inputs: 4 HDMI and 1 component-video, which can also be used as composite-video. It also has 3 USB ports, which may allow you to plug in a thumb drive or memory card reader so you can play the stored photos, videos, and music on the TV.

The Samsung UN55ES8000 measures 29.9 inches high by 48.4 inches wide by 8.2 inches deep, including its base. The panel itself is 1.2 inches thick including any protrusions, and the screen has a glossy finish. The bezel framing the screen is gloss silver.

The warranty on this TV covers parts/labor for 12/12 months, respectively. Related models in this series include the UN46ES8000; UN60ES8000; UN65ES8000; UN75ES8000.

About This Brand

Samsung is a market leader and top-tier TV manufacturer. It is often an innovator, as with its use of LED backlighting in LCD TVs, and was one of the first TV brands to offer 3D TVs and Smart TVs. Samsung offers a wide range of LCD TVs and is one of only a few brands that still sells plasma TVs. Its TVs are distributed widely in national and regional retailers, and in mass-market and discount outlets. In addition to LCD and plasma TVs, Samsung also sells DLP-based home theater front projectors.

Comment:
The picture on this television is hands down the best of any television I researched. However, after making this purchase, I do not recommend the ES8000 series. For now, the ES7100 will do all this television can do and at a cheaper price. The additional options on this television, particularly the Smart TV options, are glitchy at best. I have problems initiating voice control commands and using hand gestures. Until this technology improves, these features are worthless. In addition, Samsung is offering bundles with this television that includes a free sound bar. After making the purchase, I discovered the distorted sound from the television's speakers even at extremely low volumes. Thinking I had a defected television, I returned to the store to listen to floor models of other flat screen TV's. All of the newer Samsung models had the same distorted sound, though the ES7100 series and older models were somewhat better. The sound bar is a needed accessory.

Bottom line: Best picture - Samsung. Best sound - Sony. Best Value - Samsung ES7100, not the ES8000.

Comment:
When ever I have company everyone, and I mean everyone comments on how life life the picture is. Some say it looks like they are watching a play.
Also, with the picture quality it is easy to see the fake backdrops and the actors/actresses bad make up job.
Sports comes through as if you were in the stadium
