Comment:
I purchased this TV because it was a Sony with a DirecTV tuner built in. I have the Genie from DirecTV and was interested in not having to have another box sitting in this location. I have been greatly disappointed. Not only does the picture have a non uniform backlighting profile creating distracting shadowing in the picture but the DirecTV tuner capabilities are much lacking. The interfaces are painfully slow. So slow in fact that I have decided to forgo the internal tuner use and move the main Genie to this location. When I say that the interface is slow, I am also comparing it to the client boxes on the Genie mini's. I could live with the disappointment of the DirecTV functionality but what I cant live with is the picture. I am working with Sony right now on a 3rd replacement but have little faith that this will resolve the issue after finding this review from CR about the backlighting that they found. I purchased this set for around 1500 and the backlighting is terrible compared to my 300 dollar Sceptre. The short of this is if you are looking for a good viewing experience, steer clear of this model. I have owned many Sony products in the past which is the reason I chose this model but there is clearly some development that needs done to perfect the concept held in it.
How long have you owned it:
One-to-three months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
