I have owned this cabrio for 3 years. The electronics code out every 3 to 6 months. Service from Whirlpool is terrible and I have this expensive excuse for a reliable washer. Sure, when it works it does well but it stops working every 3 or 4 months. buy this only if you want enormous headaches and having to go to the local washateria frequently. I am buying another washer and junking this pricey garbage.

Bought Whirlpool Cabrio on 8/29/09. Broke down in Feb 2010 - under warranty. Just broke down again in May 2011. Will cost $629 to repair. 'Electro magnets' operating the agitator broke per repairman. Repairman told me that he has worked on mulitple Cabio machines - not well designed. I will not pay to have repaired. Will buy another 'non-Whirlpool' brand. BTW-Whirlpool manufactures units under other brand names. YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU BUY THIS MACHINE!

Whirlpool Cabrio not worth the cost. Household of 3 people. Normal family use. Whirlpool Cabrio broke down 6 months after purchase - fixed under warranty. Broke down second time within 1yr 9 mo.- not under warranty. I expected more when buying Whirlpool's expensive, top of the line. I've been taken and won't buy a Whirlpool again.

Had all the insides replace after three and half years and now at five years is broke down again. Clothes do come out wrinkled and has ripped delicate items on the high spin cycle.
Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
Unless you love ironing, STAY AWAY from the Cabrio line. All clothes and sheets wrinkled beyond recognition and all Whirlpool corporate helpline will say is that it is a "design defect." We are donating [$] worth of washer & dryer to a pet sanctuary because it is only good for washing towels for animals. Whirlpool should refund everyone's money for this line of horrid equipment. We will not buy Whirlpool or affiliated products again.

I only owned this two days so far.My first load , I thought oh no my husbands kakis are all wrinkled and a little soap was left on one pair.. I threw them in my old trusty maytag dryer and everything came out nice.Second load, I used less soap and the correct setting for the wash load , everything came out nice.Third load ( whites ) they came out very bright white compared to my old washer.. I am now impressed with this machine.I did my tops that need handwashing.. and those came out nice.I did go back and buy the extended warrenty from [...].. with so many digital stuff on the panel, I thought I needed to have the extra warrenty. so now the washer has a five year warrenty.Im happy!I was so used to my old washer with all that water wasted.. this new one is really different..and I had it in my mind that its not going to clean with very little water. But it does. The bulky cycle gives you the most water.Very diff Very Very quiet.. I am surprised , it is on my second floor ... and I dont even hear it.
Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
There is no screen in front of the pump, so anything smaller than a quarter can get into and block the pump impeller (screws, nails, small change, dollar bills etc). Easy for a handyman to fix, but I NEVER had this problem on the old machines.
Also, overloading will cause clothes to go over the top of the inner tub, on high speed spin, these clothes will literally cut the plastic dispensers for soap and bleach in two.
Do yourself a favor; buy an old used Kenmore, have it rebuilt and use it for another 20 trouble free years. Costs less, lasts longer.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO GET THIS WASHER EVEN THOUGH IT COST BIG MONEY, I THOUGHT I WAS TREATING MYSELF TO A GREAT PURCHASE. WAS I EVER WRONG, I HATE IT, I HATE IT!! IT STINKS VERY BAD IF THE LID IS LEFT CLOSED. IT STILL STINKS IF THE LIDS LEFT OPEN. I'VE USED SPECIAL WASHING MACHINE CLEANER & IT MAKES IT A LITTLE BETTER BUT STILL SMELLS MOLDY. IT WON'T WASH X-LARGE LOADS WITHOUT GETTING UNBALANCED. (NOT STUFFED) & DOESN'T CLEAN THE CLOTHES. EVERYTHING FROM MENS DRESS SHIRTS TO SHEETS GET TURNED INTO LONG TWISTED ROPES. YOU HAVE TO DO SMALL LOADS ONLY, IE: 4 PR OF JEANS AND A COUPLE OF SHIRTS & THATS ALL IT CAN HANDLE! STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW THEY RATED IT SUCH A LARGE CAPACITY!! THE SOFTENER DISPENSER ALWAYS LEAVES SOFTENER IN IT & IT GETS ALL CHUNKY AND GUMMED UP INSIDE IT AND YOU HAVE TO DIG IT OUT. IT LEAVES LITTLE WET PIECES OF BALLED UP DIRT IN THE CLOTHES QUITE OFTEN. WHEN SELLING MY HOUSE I'M INCLUDING IT JUST TO GET RID OF IT AND HOPE THE NEW OWNERS WILL TAKE IT OFF MY HANDS. PRETTY SAD!!!

We have owned this washer/dryer set for three years. You need the extra coverage from dealer for water pump and curcuit board issues. Change some how comes out of pockets and get into water pump. King size spreads get hung under tub mount you have to tear them out. I would not buy for cleaning of large spreads. Overall fair porduct, We have had no problems out of the dryer.

Absolutely terrible. Has already been serviced 3 times and I've owned it for 3 years. Its one error code to another. I've had so much replaced in it its not even funny. It just died tonight again (the start button stopped working) and instead of getting it repaired I would rather just throw it off my balcony and buy another. Please re-consider before purchasing. There's a reason why there are a lot of negative reviews on this machine.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
We found one big issue with this washer. If you fill the washer up with small items (socks, baby towels, women's unmentionables) there is a chance they can become lodged between the inner and outer tub.
If this happens they will float to the bottom and disrupt the drain. This causes smells, slow draining and eventually plugging.
A DIYer can fix this. You can lift the top and remover the tub cover. The back right corner of the tub is where the cloths will float. Using a flashlight and a "unbent" metal cloths hanger you can snag the wayward items.
Once we learned to put smalls on the bottom we have never had an issue with the washer. We love it!

GOOD: This is a huge washer that works very well. It spins very fast so it dries the clothes well.
BAD: it had a problem with the lid lock that took 4 trips by the repair tech to get fixed. The repair was covered by the warranty but we were without a washer for a couple fo weeks. No problems since then.
I would have given it a 5 had it not been for the repair

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
The Whirlpool Cabrio top loaders have a poor main bearing design that often fails when the product is out of warranty. The main bearing is not replaceable and the entire tub assembly needs to be replaced at a cost of about 60% of the original purchase price.
So basically this a throw away product, not designed to be repaired.
So much for energy efficiency when it ends up in the land fill just a few years after you buy it!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
As others have said, this machine should not have been sold. Our machine got noisier and noisier, also had a foul smell from the bottom of drum. Called for out of warranty repair, tech noticed slight leaking water under unit, took everything apart and needed to replace main bearing to fix noise issue. Then blamed us for using TOO MUCH detergent! and not running the clean machine cycle with lots of bleach. This is stupid, I am sure the repair techs are well trained into saying it is this and that (meaning our fault, and this is normal for a 3yr old machine).
The tub under my drum had terrible mold from the water that never completely drained after use. Myself and the tech scrubbed everything clean with bleach. Months later I can spin the drum back and forth with my had and hear a lot of water sloshing about. If it is left for a week the smell comes back. Does anyone else have this issue? I have a photo of the mold in the tub.
We have also had a few control panel errors that seem to fix themselves, UL and P51.
This is terrible as I thought I was buying a top of the line washer, Whirlpool should be ashamed of themselves.

From the initial use the clothes came out all knotted together. After several months the drive system began to click and grind then after the warenty was out the drive system gave out and started leeking water. Our family will not buy another of these machines. It was a lemon.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I wash everything in it -- bedding and pillows, delicate sweaters, everything. The dials are really easy to use. Rarely it comes unbalanced and the wash cycle stops, but loading it carefully almost eliminates that problem. I like to run an extra rinse on everything so most loads take almost an hour. Unless I run a delicate cycle it really chews on the clothes so I'm careful to separate out the delicate things. It uses very little electricity and very little soap. I'm quite happy with it!
Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I have had this washer for about 2 years, and it just doesn't wash well. The extra time it takes to make sure everything is pretreated bothers me - and still doesn't guarantee a great result. If I run all loads as "sheets" or "bulky items" where more water is used, the performance is better. I'm going back to a front loader.

This machine has broken down for me as it has for many other people, and Whirlpool won't fix it, even though most everyone has the same problem, they won't recall this, or pay for the repair. I loved it while it worked because it managed large loads. The repair is around $400, I don't want to throw it away, but the repair is more than half the price of the machine.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I've had this machine for 3 years and the first year there was a malfunction with the computer board so they changed it under the warranty but it took forever to do. Now there is a UL problem with the spin cycle (loud, unbalanced) and repairman said need to replace tub and cost is $500 parts only. We decided instead to just buy another one. I can't believe it only lasted 3 years. My previous one was 10 years+ but got rid of it because it looked old yet still worked fine. This one looks fine but doesn't work. Will never buy Whirlpool again!

We owned the 6700 model for almost two years - it stopped running due to the F51 code - of course it is out of warranty, The tech says there is a defective bottom plate that is bent which is causing a bottom seal not to seal , thus leaking water out of the bottom - HOW DO YOU SAY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT??????? Why does CR still recommend this PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!????

After 3.5 years, the rotor broke down. It is way too expensive to fix. A major breakdown like this seems to be way too early in the life of the washer.
Clothes do get clean, but this doesn't work with bulky items like sheets well; they often get tangled and knotted.

I've had this machine for just a hair over three years. Just long enough for the extended warranty we purchased on it to run out, LOL. This thing is HORRIBLE! I have NO IDEA how Consumer Reports can come up with such a favorable rating on this machine!! It tangles the clothes so tightly that the wrinkles won't come out at all! After only this short amount of time, we are having to call a repairman because either the board is shot or the bearing needs to be replaced. I would NEVER recommend this washer to anyone. We spent [$] on this piece of junk. NEVER AGAIN!! Do NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!

I've had this machine almost four years now, and have not had ONE single problem with it! I'm not sure what the other reviewers did to their machines, but I just applied common sense by not overfilling it and oversoaping (two worst enemies of a washing machine). Yes, it does twist clothes up a bit, but does not harm them, and it all works out in the dryer. As for those that said you cannot select the water level, this machine has sensors that knows how much you've put in and how much water to use. I also have the matchine dryer, and again have had zero problems. Love them both! And yes I am a real person, no one paid me to say these things.

I've had this machine for 5 years. It's broken down 3 times so far. First one was covered under warranty (within the first year). Second one the entire computer panel went bad (repair was $900), luckily but not without our persistency they paid for most of the cost) and how it's broken again, another broken computer panel. I wouldn't buy this brand again.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
This machine is actually owned by my daughter. It worked great the first 6 months since then it has been one repair after another. She has owned it for just 2 years and is having to replace the machine. It went through a water pump at the 7 month mark and then the infamous F1 and F51 error codes. Whirlpool fixed both but with a lot of hassel. The repair lasted about 6 months. Now the washer will not wash clothes efficiently. She must wash a load 2-3 times to get normal wear clothes clean. It no longer will go through a full cycle because the loads unbalance so she can not get the clothes spun out and has to hand wring the clothes. Three repair techs have come out and they can not fix it. She has spent hours on the phone with Whirlpool and they have no idea what is wrong with it. The working theory is the direct drive motor and the positioning sensor are not working correctly and the repairs will cost over $500. Needless to say she is buying a new machine this week. THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK

Maybe high tech is not the way to go.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I replaced a 12 year old Maytag that had been a workhorse with no bells and whistles with a Whirlpool Cabrio HE with ALL the bells and whistles. From the very start, it became the bane of my existence! Efficient? Yes. Water saver? Yes. However, since there is not an agitator, the clothes tumble into the middle and cause the machine to go off balance frequently. Sheets become so tangled and knotted that it takes 10 minutes to get them untangled in order to put them in the dryer. I bought this machine 3 years ago to the tune of over $900 and today, I had to replace it because the machine board (computer) died. I could have lived with the wrinkled clothes; the inability to determine how much water I want to use; the frequent UL codes, etc., but to have to replace it after only 3 years is disgusting! Doing laundry is no picnic, but to have to do laundry with a machine that one loathes, is challenging at best. I bought a Speed Queen top loader with absolutely no bells and whistles. I don't even think it is particularly water efficient which is fine with me. I'll save water somewhere else. The machine has an incredible 5 year PARTS AND LABOR warranty and the guy said it'll last 20 years! I told him he better hope it does because if it breaks down in 3 years, he doesn't want to see me walk in the door!! Let me make this very clear: I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE WHIRLPOOL CABRIO!!!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
Myself and my wife have had this machine for about a year now. Cleans great and has dropped our water consumption significantly. Well to the point the water company called us to ask us why we aren't using as much water......We were shocked and amazed! Cycles are average time, cleaning is great, spin cycle does a great job....nearly dry, which has also cut down our drying time as well.....Electricity has dropped significantly also. Because of the type of agitation, the clothes come out a bit wrinkled and twisted. We have found that giving your pants shirts etc. a good shake prior to tossing into the dryer seems to do the trick. If you're going to toss the clothes into the dryer in one big lump of twisted matter and expect things to be wrinkle free you are foolish. Great machine so far love it. Load and go!

We are a normal household with small family. Owned for 2 yrs. This washer recently became exteremely noisy[...]. The cost to repair is excessive. Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
We have owned this expensive "high end" washer for 3 1/2 years. Since purchasing it we have had to replace one of the main motors at a cost of [$], shortly after we had it for a year, and have now found out that it needs repairs that will cost more than purchasing a new unit. ($1000+) It is still working, but it sounds similar to what a car sounds like with a flat tire, and we are told it could die at anytime! It is noisy, CANNOT HANDLE LARGE CAPACITY LOADS, does not clean like advertised and ties the clothes in knots that would make any eagle scout proud. If you are considering purchasing this washer you should take note that the majority of the positive reviews on this machine are from people who have owned it for less than six months. The majority of us who have owned it for longer would not wish it on their worst enemy. In summary, if you are considering purchasing this washer run away as fast as you can, you would be better off asking your parents or grandparents for their 30 year old machine that is probably still working!!!!!!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
After reading the above reviews, I had to write my own because the two could not be more wrong. Read the manual people! It clearly states that you should separate your heavy loads from your delicate clothes, and there is a separate setting for sheets and comforters. I have done several loads of laundry and not only is the machine quick with the task, but the clothes smell fantastic and my clothes are so much brighter. I would HIGHLY recommend buying this washing machine. Plus, we got a screaming deal from [...] on this model because the new ones just came out.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
If you want a show, this is the machine to buy. If you want clean, undamaged laundry, run as fast as you can. This "washer" has an amazing ability to actually take clothes and twist them into tight, complicated knots. For loads that include sheets, it also has the ability to take one sheet and wrap all the remaining laundry inside of it like an empenada or burrito... protecting the rest of the laundry from the wash! The only way I found to get a decent wash was to stand by the machine and overfill it using a garden hose on the initial (sheets setting) cycle then overfill it again on the rinse cycle. It has several "clever" cycles where the tub will rotate dry a few times, stop (sometimes for a few seconds), then counter rotate one half spin, then rotate and spin for awhile... before adding water. Then it will go thru another complicated cycle of adding water in spurts as it rotates and counter rotates in varying degrees. It looks like there was heavy research and development put into these complicated movements, but what I've determined (as an engineer) is that it's all window dressing meant to "wow" the consumer. In all practicality, these elaborate cycles do NOTHING to clean the clothes. If anything, they just add needless time (and energy) to the wash cycle. As far as reliability, the machine broke down the first time we used it, then again one month later. I don't recall exactly as it was under warranty and repaired by a technician, but the tub and some major parts were replaced. Since then it's been ok, but it sounds like it will break at any time... and I'm sure it will be a very expensive fix. Horrible, horrible machine.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
You may wonder why reviewers either love or hate this washer. I have had mine for more than 3 years and like it, but I understand why some people have problems.
To design a washer to clean clothes is not very difficult. The problem is when consumers demand more: clean clothes AND save water, or clean clothes AND save water AND wash huge loads AND wash gently AND load from the top.
This washer does all five, but to accomplish this feat isn't easy, and it doesn't work like your grandmother's washer.
To save water as a top loader, it recycles the water (like a dishwasher). To have a HUGE capacity and wash gently, it doesn't have a central agitator; it uses water jets like a jacuzzi. It also uses an extraction process where it spins the load at a moderate speed while recycling and spraying the detergent/water mix from the top of the washer so it continuously passes through the clothes, taking the dirt and soil out with it.
Using this method, the washer doesn't need to submerge the entire tub with water. Since the tube is HUGE, that would take a lot of water. Some people when watching the wash cycle through the glass lid see that the clothes aren't covered with water and think it can't possibly get the clothes clean, but using the process described above is very effective and gentle at the same time. But you must use a high quality detergent, and not skimp with it. The detergent is doing most of the work with this washer.
Also, even thought it doesn't have a central agitator protruding in the middle of the tub, you have to arrange the clothes around the edges and leave the middle clear.
All this is spelled out in the washer manual. You really have to read this manual or you will be disappointed with the washer.
If you just like throwing clothes in your washer and leaving the setting at "normal", this washer is not for you.
You HAVE to use the numerous washer options. If you are washing a load of sheets and towels, you have to select the....Sheets/towels" option. If you are washing a bulky item, like a king sized comforter (yes, a king sized comforter will fit in this HUGE tub) you have to select BULKY ITEMS.
If you don't select the appropriate option, you will be disappointed. You will have your sheets twisted up into an incredible knot, or you will have your pants come out with amazing wrinkles (the top spin speed is unbelievably fast). Each option changes the way the jacuzzi jets work, along with changing water temps and spin speeds. In addition, you can modify the selected option futher, so if you still get wrinkles using the normal option you can select a slower spin cycle. I get excellent results by overriding the soil level and selecting maximum on most loads, and also using the "deep clean" option when it lets me.
You have to plan your loads so that you won't get unbalanced errors. Don't just wash one large item (like a blanket). It will end up on one side of the washer and the tub with be unbalanced. There is plenty of room in this HUGE tub to wash 2 blankets, and you will not get the dreaded unbalanced signal.
Now for the drawbacks.
Because this washer recycles the water, there is a recycle pump and a system of tubing that leads from the bottom of the tub back to the top. This tubing will begin to look like a dirty aquarium unless you follow the recommendation in the manual and perform a CLEAN WASHER cycle once a month. You pour a cup of bleach in the bleach container and select CLEAN WASHER, and 60 minutes later you are done. In my opinion the manual does not emphasis the importance of this.
The second serious flaw with this washer has been pointed out by another reviewer: it eats coins. If you hear a "clackety-clackety" sound when the washer is spinning, it is not a bearing going bad; it's coins bumping against each other under the basket, or (worse) it's a penny in the recycle pump banging against the impeller (which could crack the pump housing and cause a leak).
This is really an inexcusable design flaw. I don't know if the lastest models have corrected this. YOU HAVE TO CHECK ALL ITEMS FOR COINS or other small items like paperclips or bobbypins.
My washer began making the clackety-clackety sound about two years after I bought it. Finally I googled and learned about the coin problem. I also found a video on the internet showing how to take apart the washer, so I was able to remove 6 quarters, a dime, and a penny from under the basket. There was still a noise, so I removed the recycle pump and found a penny inside.
Now my wife and I are careful about checking pockets. Unless this flaw has been corrected, I can see why people would not want to buy this washer, in spite of its other benefits.
Bottom line: a qualified recommendation.
If the coin problem has been fixed: a definite recommendation.

I have had this machine for 2 1/2 years. We were smart to have purchased the 5 year extended warranty. We have had to call for service 3 times. [...] We get the error messages often. I just change to a new cycle and use that until I get an error message. Finally after about three cycles being unusable I call for service. Many times when I remove the clothes there are still DRY spots on the clothing where the water never touched...how clean are they getting??? Stains do not come out unless you run it through several cycles. The clothes in the last 2 months have come out still smelling dirty. The repair man said it didn't look like enough water was coming in not from the house end but from the washer's lack of water flow. This last time the repair man said it was the computer board for the 2nd time, he had to order it. [...] we will not be purchasing another Whirlpool. In the past I have liked them, this however was a let down. [...] With three teenagers we have spent well over $100 at the laundry mat. [...] Our old top loaders that were less than 1/2 the price of this one worked so much better!!!! I think we will go back to them!

first off be careful when installing. Had store install and they attached hot to cold which I realized after doing a cold wash. This machine wrings out well and leaves you with a wrinkled mess that requires you shake out every item before putting in dryer or wrinkles dry into clothes. Selling point was large capacity and could do comforter and sheets at the same time...."not" it gets off balance way too easy and load has to try to rebalance using more water then just stops cycle.I had a maytag neptune that this replaced and it did a much better job of washing comforter and sheets at same time even though drum was smaller.

The design on this machine is bad. Not enough water goes into the machine. Clothes are barely wet...not submerged in water, therefore MAJOR friction from the center agitator. Then you need to run clothes through additional rinses to truly rinse the grime and detergent out. This machine is destroying my clothes!

had the Whirlpool Cabrio set Washer and Dryer [...], did my first load and the machine flooded my laundry room, the seal on the bottom of the tub was missing, once load was finished all the clothes were so ties up that it took 2 people to untie and unknot all the clothes, the laudry soap residue was all over the black clothes.[...]very dissapointed with Whirlpool.

Mine was great for the first year. Then the fatal F1 error. Four trips out to finally fix it. The first trip the Whirlpool repairman refused to fix without contacting Whirlpool. (not allowed to repair without contacting them first)Then it would go off balance, so another two trips from the repairman. This time couldnt tell why, so replaced the inside tub and all four springs. Dont want to jinx it - working great now for six months. It is great for heavy duty stuff but light weight clothes or set of sheets, and it's like trying to untangle a necklace with knots. Yikes! Would I buy another, not sure - for wringing the water out, it is the best - but has other issues. Sure wouldnt buy one without the extended warranty!

I would never buy a whirlpool ever again I had the cabrio for 16 months and it started to leak water , I called whirlpool and a service man came out $100. paid and free water pump, now 3 months later pump cracked, now I had to pay 212.00 to replace it and now 3 months later it needa water pump again, rods and bearings all for 426.00, plus a tech $100.. It now sound like jet landing plu the panel has a defect so Whirlpool replaced that for free. STAY AWAY FROM WHIRLPOOL
Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I have had this product for less than 3 years and started to have problems with it off and on since it was about 1 year old. It started alot of clicking and sounding like a jet. I read other reviews in other sites where the fix is just as expensive as buying a new one. At the beginning it was great but after a short while in use-problems started. I read other reviews where Whirlpool had parts on recall but they did not assist customers in replacing the part. The problems will start after they have been in operation for awhile.

After a little over 2 years, the frame split on the inside and rust drips on the clothes, staining them. It has now sprung a leak and water gets all over the floor. I am having to replace it after only 3 years. I won't buy another one.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
Our Maytag broke after only 4-1/2 years. We originally purchased a LG front load washer and disliked almost everything about. The store we purchased it from was very accommodating and let us exchange it for a top load washer and we chose the Whirlpool 6800 in white.
I like everything about it. It's easy to operate and does a great job cleaning clothes. The washer spins the water out well and it takes things less time to dry than with our old washer.
I've not had any problems with the clothes being tied in knots or damaged. And it is easy to add an article after the washer has started.
This washer is quite different than older models, so I think the reading the ENTIRE manual before using it is essential.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I have had I this appliance for less than 3 years which is very disappointing that I would have bought one of the highest rating machines on consumer reports for it to break down so early. Why aren't things made to last anymore!? For the price, these high-end appliances should last considerably longer. "Suspicious that substituting cheap for quality keeps the consumer buying, sales up, and the stock prices high. This strategy makes Wall St. happy, but if this fails prematurely, it will be the last Whirpool product we purchase." I agree with this statement.
Other complaints: VERY noisy and is rough on clothing. Has torn some of my delicates, so delicate cycle not so delicate.
I have to call now for service request on machine after only having used it 3 years and pay MORE on a product that should have lastest me ALOT longer.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
Consumerreports please add a "change test" to the tests you do on washers. For this test just dump some coins in the washer and see what happens. If you leave "change" in your pockets(and this happens more frequently then folks think) the coins will get into the ejector pump and make a rattling noise. The problem is that the banging of the coins will soon crack the pump housing and create a leak. Then you must replace the entire pump. You cannot just buy the housing(a $5 part, at most)
This is a defect and Whirlpool will not admit it.
I'm on my 4th pump in 4 years.

[...] This machine has torn up clothes, twist and shredded sheets and bedspreads, fails to clean stains. Personally I think Consumer reports would wise up to these real world reviews.. and I wish whirlpool recall these machines and fix them. stay away from them!!!!
Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I do 8-9 loads a week. I am happy with the bulky items cycle. My spread & comforter came out clean & not wrinkled. I wash everything else on the sheet cycle as this cycle has a higher water level than the others so clothes can agitate freely thru the water & get clean. The rinse cycle is useless! Very little water. The clothes don't flow thru the water as there isn't enough water for this to happen. All this cycle does is twist, wrinkle, & damage clothes. When the cycle is done, I put the clothes thru another sheet cycle on light soil & cold water setting to rinse (how energy efficient is that?). The spin speed (set at low) is too intense & only sets wrinkles in. I spent [$] on this washer and feel as though I threw it away! I despise it!!!

By FAR the worst appliance we've ever purchased. Continuous errors running loads of all sorts - we get the dreaded 'LD' error multiple times per load, not to mention 'UL' errors with anything more than a pair of socks. Severely wrinkles any and all clothing. Check online for the errors above and run, Forrest, RUN from this headache. I'd call this machine a piece of ****, but turds deserve respect, too.

Twists clothes Large load but leaves clothes wrinkled Shreds throw rugs with Fringe or loose stringson spin it will jump around and go off balance cost was high 900 - 1000 1-2 years ago now at [...] for [$]. It now constantly shows an error message of F-1 which the repair guy said means it needs a new board for 375. Cycle time is long but does do large load and if you dry them half at a time they wont stay to wrinkled. BUYER BEWARE even consumer report makes mistakes. I have relied on them for years but this was not a good choice.

There's just my husband and I home now and this machine is great for doing bedding off our king size bed the drum is nice and large. The only beef I have about the machine and I have heard this about other High Energy washers even the front load, is that unless you do a second rince the clothes don't smell freshly washed. Even with that it uses less water.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
We use the product for a family of four - mom, dad, 5 year old and 16 month old. We replaced our old, slightly malfunctioning regular washer with this washer. It was a BIG mistake.
This washer, which we use per its specs, excels at destruction. Our clothes stay dirty and dingy, and as a bonus they are also full of holes. Stitching is wrenched out of seams, towels and sheets have holes in the middle as well as sides, and my underwear and bras need to be replaced regularly. Cloth diapers were trashed - but again, not cleaned - after a couple washes.
As I'm stuck with this hungry monster, I do a lot more hand-washing. If I had the money, I'd destroy it and buy another - ANY other - washer.

Reluctantly purchased this after the Calypso (predecessor to Cabrio) failed after only 5 years. Not sure I can recommend this as we only have about 18 mos of use. This strategy makes Wall St. happy, but if this fails prematurely, it will be the last Whirpool product we purchase.

I had it in my mind that we were going to buy the top-rated GE combination. However, after finding the exact set my wife and daughters informed me they did not want a central agitator! News to me! Well, about six display models down was this high-technology high-capacity Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer that they loved at first site. Almost twice the cost of the GE units, but with extensive rebates from both our local power and water districts it help take some of the sting out. After installation we *all* became fascinated with what this machine could do, sans agitator, and fed it big loads, small loads, from delicates to sleeping bags, and marveled at its action and capabilities. Who thought doing laundry could be entertaining!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I have 3 children and it seems like I am constantly washing clothes, very dirty clothes. I must admit that this washer does hold a very large load of clothes but doesn't get them clean, especially jeans, which is all my family usually wears, so that was a very big downfall for me. Also, when the clothes get done, they are so wrinkled and wadded up that it is ridiculous! I returned my washer after only 2 weeks, I knew this was not the washer for me!!!!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
Ok yes I actually sat there above the clear lid to watch an ENTIRE wash. After reading the reviews I had to see. At first they appeared to just not move in barely enough water. But I'm telling you you have to watch the whole process, literally. It really does clean well! Its not like old washers that just sit in an enormous tub of water and swish around. Over time the clothes slowly, slowly, circulate but over the ENTIRE wash. and as far as stuff shredding or what not never had that problem. I read the manual and load things the way they should be and put them on the correct cycle.
PHEW enough.. We love it and recommend it.

We splurged on our Cabrio 2 1/2 years ago and now the water pump has broken for the 3rd time, causing flooding in my laundry room and hallway. So not only have we payed $400 in repairs, but are also having the padding in the hallway replaced under the carpeting, and the whole house reeks of mold!! Whirlpool is replacing the machine at the "prorated value", but that is the best they would do after speaking w/3-4 "supervisors". The problem is that there is a ring of space betwen the barrel and shell, allowing any loose change to fall in and get stuck in the pump causing severe damage. Quite a problem for a mother w/3 young children!!! I'm sick of this machine!!!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
This machine just doesn't use enough water to get dirty clothes clean. Using the heaviest duty settings, extra soaking, and heavy dirt settings, I can get just average cleaning. Anything stained of heavily soiled just doesn't come clean even after multiple washings. Also leaves powdered detergent or stain booster residue on clothes, even using extra rinse setting. Not worth the water efficiency if you have to run the load multiple times to get clothes clean.

We've owned this unit for about two years. We've logged 7 major reapirs, including computer control boards, pump, motor and bearings. The last straw was the units inability to remain balenced under any conditions.
I'm frustrated that CR's high marks don't reconcile with the poor real world reviews.

I was looking for a good front loader, but this top loader beats my old front loader in every way! It is high efficiency, doesn't use much detergent, little water, and the laundry smells great, even when I've forgotten it for days. I thought the long cycles would bother me, but it doesn't really make any difference, since it takes as long as the dryer usually does. I would highly recommend this washer!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
This is a great washer for average loads. The only trouble we have had with it is that my husband has a tendency to overload it, and that causes it to stop (better than burning out the motor).
When this happens, we need to adjust the clothes or remove some (to re-balance them). The same issue when we try to clean quilts or large items like jackets. These tend to get uneven in the wash and require adjustment.
Otherwise, overall, it's a great machine and it cleans really well.

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
I've been using front-load washers for most of my life. My decision to buy this top-loader was based on limited space in my laundry area (these are several inches less deep than the Whirlpool front-loaders). I now live in a very small town so have limited access to brands other than what is stocked by our single appliance dealer which necessitated buying the Whirlpool brand.
Since I'm not used to top-load washers, I've found this product to use more water and is more noisy than front-loaders I've used in the past.
While it does wash towels, clothing, and everyday laundry well, it seems to struggle with bulky items such as comforters and does not move them well though the wash water. Washing bed pillows is impossible as there is no way to force the machine to fill with extra water and it is incapable of moving the pillows at all. By their very nature, front-load machines will tumble everything through the water despite size or shape so all items that fit can be cleaned.
Overall, while more noisy than front-loaders it does wash everyday loads well. Although it does use less water than conventional top-loaders, it still uses more water than the front-load models. This would probably be a good choice for someone who really likes top-load machines yet wants to be more energy efficient. It does have a very complete control panel with many choices. I especially like the available high-speed spin cycle which is excellent at removing extra moisture. However, if I had it to do over again, I would have purchased the front-load model despite the space problem.
I've not yet had any breakdowns or mechanical issues, but I did buy a 5-year service plan primarily because of poor reliability reviews here in Consumer Reports.

Do some research outside of this website. Consumer Reports must get paid for good reviews, otherwise the Whirlpool Cabrio and Kenmore Oasis (practically the same thing) would never get such good reviews. Google these machines, they're junk, some, but not all have been recalled.

We are a family of four, both children being girls...not the kind to get very dirty. The washer was great for about a year. After that it started to make funny noices and eventually stopped draining and spinning. Two repair people could not figure out the issues. Finally, we were told that it would be about $400.00 to fix. No washer should quit after that short of a time. Our last washer last over 10 years with no repairs needed. Whirlpool should be embarrassed for putting this product on the market. They are causing families to have to buy a new washer after less than two years. I will never buy whirlpool again. We watched the delievery people wheel away a brand new looking washer to a landfill due to high cost of repairs...sad for our family, our environment and our wallet. Shame on you whirlpool for not standing behind your products.

I love this washer, however, we have owned it for less than 2 years and it now needs a major repair. The spin cycle became very loud, and the repairman said it's the bearing and tub, and it would be $400+ to replace with labor. Called Whirlpool, who was willing to give us the part at half off, which takes the repair bill down to $300. I have sent a letter to the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval committe, because this washer was approved by them. At the very least, I am hoping to be reimbursed for the cost of this repair. The second repair was necessary after a few months. This was a bent internal hose, which was covered by warranty, a minor repair, and was easy to fix. Love this washer, but, unfortunately,I would not recommend it.

I bought this because I have dogs and I often wash quilts, comforters etc, and it offered a large capacity. Oh my gosh what a disaster, it wads everthing up into a ball and I have to have my husband pull it apart because I don't have the strenght to do it. It does not always use enough water to get all the clothes wet. I tried to get the retailer to give me a trade in on another brand but he said that he could not do it so I am stuck with what I consider to be a piece of garbage washer. What a joke, do not buy this washer for I am afraid that you too will be very disappointed in it!

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio HE WTW6800W[W]:
Did lots of loads to replace broken washer! High Efficiency washer is truly amazing! Immediately noticed the difference in the water usage. Spin Cycle extracts the water till it is almost dry resulting in less drying time ($$ Savings). The machine senses the correct amount of water and detergent to use so it is a "set it and forget it" machine ($$ double savings). Love the tub size since it does not have huge agitator and takes up minimal space - more room to do bulky items such as comforters. The large tub also means less loads to do (Savings $$). My only bug is that comforters may be done separately since the load can become unbalanced.

This machine does not clean clothes well. I had to wash towels and dirty jeans twice using the heavy duty and rinse twice cycles, and even then, the clothes were not very clean or fresh. I am returning this washer and getting a machine where I can control the amount of water and be able to soak for at least 20 minutes. My 15 year old Whirlpool machine was fantastic, and hopefully, I can get a better Whirlpool model.
