Whooping cough on the rise
Despite high vaccination rates, cases of whooping cough (pertussis) in infants age 4 months or younger have been rising, according to the Dec. 10 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Infants aren’t adequately protected until they get their third of five pertussis vaccine doses at 6 months of age. You can reduce the risks by keeping infants away from anyone with a persistent cough and by making sure that they get their pertussis vaccinations at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15 to 18 months, and 4 to 6 years of age.
