When the shaver was new the unit cut my beard well. I timed it against a brand new Norelco and it was much faster. The original blade lasts about 6-9 mos of great shaves then deteriorates. That would be ok by me if the replacement blades were better. They start out good and las 2 mos before they are garbage. These are Braun made and NOT cheap. The model I bought was the Series 5 which uses essentially the same blades.

I tried this and a triple head Norelco 1250x-40. While the Braun performed slightly better on my face, it was deafening near my ears, and terrible in performance on the curves of my neck. The performance on flat surfaces was unequalled however. Perhaps a combination of a foil and triple head is the only thorough solution, but I'm choosing the triple head since it performs well in both areas, though not as perfect as the Braun on the face.

Comment:
I have a light beard and shave about 3 times per week. Braun says the shaving head lasts about 18 months; after 15 months use it looks like that is an accurate estimate. I brush out the shaving head after each use and only clean it in the cleaning station after 5 or 6 shaves. If you follow Braun's suggestion to use the cleaning station after every shave replacing cleaning cartridges gets to be quite expensive. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this shaver.
