Paid for in home setup...thankfully. Took two guys 2 hours to get it setup. Unit runs smoothly and has simple, easy-to-use interface. Multiple preset programs, as well as manual, fitness, and personal settings provide a variety of ways to become familiar with machine and my own abilities. Adjustable stride length helps. Immediately upon using, squeak in foot pedal developed. I did not buy a mat, so squeak may be due to somewhat uneven placement of unit on carpet. My biggest surprise was how difficult it felt to sustain the workout. Did some looking around and discovered that I am not alone. If you have never used an elliptical, it may take some time to work up to full workout. So far, so good.

Assembly was relatively easy. These units are made in China, and and screws and attachment hardware aren't the best. However, once installed, the unit is solid and well designed. I am thrilled with it. The user interface (screen) works well, although it takes practice getting used to it. The ventilation fan is small but is well positioned close to the upper chest and therefore provides a surprisingly good amount of ventilation during your workout. So far I think my money was well spent.

Okay, first my confession - I have the Smooth Fitness CE 7.4, not the 3.6. I have owned the 7.4 for about 6 years during which time it has been sturdy, quiet and it gives a good workout. <br /><br />However, I have had huge problems with customer support and the problems have gotten worse as time has gone by. I had to order replacement parts in 2010 and again in 2012 (pedal arm both times). In 2010 I waited for four weeks and never got the part. When I called to ask why, they apologized and I got the part to me within a week. In 2012, I ordered the part and waited. They changed their customer support phone tree options to convince customers to use email or leave voice messages to communicate with the customer service department. Four weeks after ordering and no sign of my part, I did both and never heard from anyone for more than two weeks. I started calling every day and finally called the sales line and told them to transfer me to a person so I could find out what was going on. It was then that I was informed my part was back ordered. Ten weeks after my original order I received my part and it took way too much time to find out why. If it breaks again I will replace it with an elliptical from another company.
