Comment:
Received this from my doctor to replace my old Accu-check Aviva. What a big mistake. If I could give this zero stars, I would. This unit is very hard to read the results, the test strips are small and often stick together, resulting in a wasted test and requiring a re-load. The lancet is so hard to use that I still use the one from my old Accucheck. As soon as I'm eligible with my insurance company, I'm dumping this one and am going back to the Accucheck Aviva.

I was given the meter at a workshop. I have been testing myself for over 5 years however with this machine I find often the blood does not meet the required standards and the strip is waisted.
I can not easily go back for a simple comparison.
All the special flags are confusing to get through.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
This was my first blood glucose meter after being diagnosed in '08. I've tried others but none seemed to compare to the Ultra 2. The meter is expensive if it's not covered under insurance, but if you're a detail fanatic like I am, you will appreciate the bells and whistles on this meter.

I really take advantage of the multitude of flags that I can add to a reading, to give me a better idea of fasting, exercise, ate too much, etc... Especially when using it along with the data management software. It provides great charts that allow me to visually see when and how my sugar levels are changing.

I don't have a PC I can put the software on anymore and the data management software doesn't work on a Mac, so I can no longer benefit from that feature. It is too bad, my Doctor loved it when I came for my visits with my blood sugar level data printed out.

Unfortunately, my insurance places the test strips under the highest co-pay, so I pay $50 for every prescription. Although it could be worse, budget-wise the lower co-pay option would be best for me.

I find that I cut back on how frequently I test just to save money on test strips, which is really ridiculous.

It's also extremely hard to find the control solution locally, and sometimes you really need to see if readings could be a calibration issue. It also just gives peace of mind to know that everything is working as it should.

Overall a really good, consistent meter for those of us who like to track details along with glucose reading results.
