Comment:
I have a light beard and shave about 3 times per week. Braun says the shaving head lasts about 18 months; after 15 months use it looks like that is an accurate estimate. I brush out the shaving head after each use and only clean it in the cleaning station after 5 or 6 shaves. If you follow Braun's suggestion to use the cleaning station after every shave replacing cleaning cartridges gets to be quite expensive. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this shaver.

Comment:
My Series 5, Braun Activator 8985 ran well for about 6 years before the trimmer self destructed. Looked around at alternatives, etc and wound up with this Series 7 (760cc) through a prominent big box website, after considering the CU reports and other web rating sources. So far it seems to work much more efficiently than the 8985 in terms of shaving hard to get areas on the neck without resorting to repeated passes. Haven't missed a hair since the switch. The cleaning system is pretty much the same as the 8985, requiring SD alcohol cartridges to make it work...and it does a thorough job...but cartridges do add to unit costs over the unit's lifetime. The sole area where the Series 7 falls down (compared to the Series 5) is the trimmer. It has a smaller cutting surface and appears to be considerably more flimsy than that in the Series 5...whose failure caused me to search for the new one in the first place. I was a little disappointed that Braun and CU don't really address the unit's trimmer function at all in their ads or testing. Would have been helpful BEFORE the purchase.

Heavy beard. Use daily. It does a decent job but my Norelco for 1/2 the price performs just as well.
