Kohler with Sloan Flushmate power flush
8/20/2012
Pros
Great flushing
Cons
Best Uses
Comment:
When our house was built 14 years ago I had noisy Kohler power flush toilets with Sloan Flushmate mechanisms installed and they worked great compared to other toilets but they were very noisy and had poor wash down. Recently I installed the new models which fixed both problems. Although not as quiet as gravity toilets, the extra power is worth a bit extra noise and the Flushmate mechanism is extremely reliable. No messing around with flappers. I have 4 toilets in the house and basically they require no service for 10 years. After that you might have to change the main valve at a cost of $30. Another advantage of these toilets is they detect back pressure and are virtually overflow proof. They can flush down almost anything but if somehow you manage to plug it the mechanism stops flushing instantly mid flush. The only downside to these toilets is that some of the bowls are now [*]. I exchanged 2 before installation because some of the glazing was poor quality.

We love our 2 Highlines
5/1/2012
Pros
Comfortable height
Quick clean flush
Tolerable flush noise
Cons
Longer than old toilet
Best Uses
Sufficient space needed
Comment:
Both Highlines we installed are upstairs near bedrooms. They have fantastic flush power, flush cleanly and seldom need brushing. The flush noise is not quiet, but is over in an instant and the filling action is quiet. Nice looking and comfortable height, however, if you have limited space from front to back you should take measurements. The throw rug that once fit between the toilet and shower no longer fits that space.

Best toilet we've ever bought
3/19/2012
Pros
Easy to clean
Has not clogged once
No bowl soiling
No mechanical problems
Refills quickly
Cons
Loud explosive flush
Best Uses
Comment:
After years of struggling to keep two old one piece Kohler's running I wasn't sure I wanted to buy another Kohler but this one is terrific. Only drawback is the really loud flush because it's a pressure-assist toilet. And while it's loud it's really quick and the refill is quiet. Might not work for some people in a bathroom next to a bedroom, although that's where our's is located and it hasn't been a problem. For a low-volume flush it has a pretty high water level in the bowl. Much prefer it to the Toto Promenade we installed in our son's bathroom last year. That toilet flushes okay but the bowl soils badly and has to be cleaned several times a week. We couldn't use the Kohler in that bathroom because it is too deep from front to back.
