Recall notice
On April 3, Nest Labs halted sales of the Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm and deactivated the hush feature, called the Nest Wave, over concerns that the alarm could be unintentionally deactivated. Read our full report. In May 2014, Nest Labs recalled 440,000 Nest Protect Smoke + CO Alarms because activity near the product during a fire can prevent the alarm from immediately sounding when the Nest Wave feature is enabled. For more details read the recall notice from the Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Best Uses
Had 4 of them. One kept saying it had a bad sensor. Reset it and it was ok for another month. Every month another one would spout off there is smoke when there wasn't any. You need an IOS or Android device to set them up and does not support Windows Phone. Luckily I am able to send them back and get a refund since the product had a recall because of the 'hand wave' to silence feature.
