As a professional, who repairs portable generators, Honda, hands down is the winner. Like all honda products,it has intelligent design and safety features,no other product has. If you want a throwaway unit, then buy the others. But if you buy something for the long haul its an easy choice. Every honda generator that i've repaired has outperformed their ratings on a load bank test. The 5.500 watt can easily put out 6,500 watts consistently and 7.000 watts peak without degrading the back end. Honda's are also very forgiving if you have bad fuel. Drain the carb and refill wit fresh gas.Try doing that with the others. Honda is also the only manufacturer to have entire unit protected ,230 volts included. If you're running a well pump, this is important. Honda is also the only one to have Clean power,to protect computers,refrigerators,t.v.'s and all other power sensitive appliances in your home or office. Last but not least, replacement parts and service. Try and find a dealers for support when you buy the others ,probably one or two in every state. Once you leave the big box stores, good luck, you're on your own.

Comment:
Mainly used as a back-up power source. Just recently used during the blizzard (Nemo) that hit New England. we ran the generator for over 42 straight hours, with re-fueling after ~10 - 12 hours. We had our built-in refridgerator, 2 TVs, heat and hot water (nat gas), and several lights. This generator handled it all.
Mine has the electric start, but it pulls extremely easy. I also use a gas preservative that removes the ethanol. I do my own maintenence and Honda did a great job considering this in it's design.
In the last storm, I had it outside during the entire storm exposed to 2 feet of snow/ice and wind in excess of 60mph, nothing phased it, it just kept humming right along. The time before that was a hurricane with heavy rains and wind and same results.
Yes, you do pay more, but what value would you place on your families safety and comfort.
I recommend this generator to everyone that asks.
