Had to find my own fix for seals

Comment:
Half of my Pella windows were allowing air to infiltrate through the side seals. There is a very fine line the installer has to set the overall width of the frames. I could see variations in the gaps between the sash and the frame on different windows. I cut thin (0.08) wood strips and glued them into the sealing groove on the sides of the sashes to effectively make the sashes wider. Now they seal. Will attempt to improve the corners next.

Bought these Pella double pane, low e windows thinking were were getting the best on the market. What a disappointment. Had a professional contractor install them to ensure best installation and sealing around the windows. Even had someone test the installation with an infa red gun. The problem is the windows. In 40 degree weather with it 72 inside, it's too cold to sit in front of them. In summer you have to scramble to close blinds and drapes before the sun pours in. There appears to be no weather protection at all. Probably the most expensive disapointment in recent history. Factory essentially thinks we have too high exectations. But the temperature of the inside glass on our sliding door (not a Pella) is some 30 degrees warmer than the Pella window. So it's clearly possible to construct a window that does not transmit heat, they just didn't do it.

I have had these windows for several years and purchased them based on the advice of a friend (who is a contractor). I should have done my own research...

The windows look find and operate fine, but any wind will blow right through them. These are no better than the single pane windows that I replaced. Look elsewhere if you deal with cold winter winds like I do in Chicago.

I will be re-replacing these windows if I decide to stay in my current house.
