Comment:
I wait for these bulbs to go on sale, or time-out when the next series is about to come out and buy them on clearance. Either way, you have to be vigilant, and a conscience shopper when it comes to buying these bulbs. I always check the two big Home Improvement Centers to hopefully save $10.00 to 15.00 off MSRP.

With that said, the cost per bulb factor is now leveled out, or cheaper than other LED bulbs in the SAME category. I strongly note same because these are high quality, high-end, well built bulbs. I currently have 8 of these, and plan to buy more. I use them in two places mostly: 1.) High usage living areas, and 2.) leave-on and forget places like the basement and garage. Basement, garage, workspace, etc. are places where I like keeping lights on for extended periods of time, and with the light-output and cost/watt I am keeping electric bills down, while providing great ambient light.

I would light to address the Great Ambient Light comment. I have used every type and version of bulb you have seen in the lighting aisle at your local big box store. Besides building my own High Output T5 fluorescent light fixture (which runs anyway where from 85-165.00 depending on the type of ballast used, and type of T5 bulbs used...these LED lights from Philips are far and away the best. Yes, I am referring to the Daylight type of CFL bulbs which produce such a eye-piercing, uncomfortable blue/white light. I would gather that some of those 6500K bulbs are bluer than that, and appear to me to be closer to 10,000K.

Daylight bulbs are supposed to be full-spectrum with peaks in the Red, Green, and Blue wavelengths, in fact closer to what is referred to Bright White in color. Now i come down from my physics/optics pulpit to add one more thing....these bulbs feel light stone. LED lighting comes from a diode, hence Light Emitting Diode, and i like what Philips has done with the construction of the shell. They made it hard, and tough. I have dropped a bulb before and it just marred the yellow part. This cant be said of some of the newer, less expensive LED A19 bulbs coming out.

The efforts of the other companies making an attempt of giving their bulbs a more conventional look and feel...the sacrifice is durability, which i understand since one of my cons are the comments made by neighbors and family on how ugly they look. But, for the build quality, light output, lumens/watt, and cost when they are on sale...these are difficult to beat.

Comment:
I have a wide variety of different light bulbs around my house as I search for incandescent replacements with all the qualities I want. These bulbs match color and brightness and shape and light distribution reliably. I might be willing to move to a slightly cooler 3000K color, but not the 3300 - 3800 Kelvin that other bulbs actually are when I bring them home. This bulb is reliably indistinguishable from incandescent bulbs it replaces. And it turns on instantly. (no 2 second delay, no warm-up time) This bulb and it's slightly larger 75w eq. version are becoming the only bulbs I buy, despite their price, because I can't rely on other bulbs to match what they say. In a fixture with 3 bulbs, the color needs to match. Recent CFLs are pretty good at this, and this bulb is great. Hopefully the yellow (remote phosphor) LED technology will allow more bulbs to produce light at their rated color temperature as well.

Comment:
I picked up a few of these bulbs at the same place that sells the other top rated LED bulb, where they were $15 actually cheaper than the store brand. I use them in the very cold garage where I need very bright light right away, but refuse to install inefficient lighting.
