Comment:
I bought a house in July 2014. The house had a new roof installed in May 2013. I was provided the roofing information when I purchased the house. The roofing material is GAF Sovereign 25 Weathered Gray. My general inspector for the house warned me of the excessive granular loss and shingles not protective from the ultraviolet rays. So I scheduled a local reputable roofing contractor to take a look after I got the house. The contractor's comment is It is horrible. The roof is like 15 years old. I contacted GAF and was told that since I did not notify GAF in writing within 60 days of ownership transfer, so my house is not covered by their warranty.

I have installed this product on 6 buildings I own, starting in 2001. The only problems were due to incorrect installation by so-called professional roofers I hired for the first building, and even those problems did not result in leaks or blow-offs. If the manufacturer's installation instructions are followed, I've had no problems at all in 12 years.

GAF claims its not its shingle

Comment:
I bought this shingle in 1996. Every time I turned in a claim to the insurance company they said the shingle was substandard and wasn't due to damage from storms. Finally turned in a claim to GAF with documentation showing it was this shingle and the response I got from them was it wasn't their shingle. Needless to say, GAF is going to get many phone calls from me. They won't make good on the guarantee. Might even turn them over to the BBB. And the thing is they have a plant 30 miles from me where they make them and sell them in a 500 mile radius. I'm positive they are their shingles.
