The best stain I've used in 35 years
9/30/2013
Pros
Easy Application
Easy clean-up
Long Lasting
Cons
Not For Decks
Best Uses
Comment:
This is truly a great stain for vertical surfaces. I've used it for something like 25 years now on my large, Swiss-chalet style home in northern Pennsylvania and am perfectly satisfied. Most areas have lasted at least 10 years (some up to 15 years)without restaining. Two coats are always applied. It isn't great for decks (flat surfaces), but I've used it. It only lasts a year or two.

Comment:
This stain was applied by a professional painter on my deck in Atlanta. After a few months it was full of mildew. Now just coming into its second year after application it is peeling and cracking very badly and the mildew is rediculous.

Comment:
I have 10,000 square feet of decking that ranges from 25 years old to new. I have used quite a few stains over the years (like the oil stains best but they are gone). S-W works pretty well. I generally get 2 or when lucky 3 years from it (I rotate sections of the deck I stain each year). My decks are mostly in the sun all the time, and some under trees. The area under the trees do stain badly and are hard to clean up. The mildew, however, comes off with a power washer. I wash all the decks once a year... overall look good. Wish I couold get 3-4 years out of a stain...but so far no luck.
