About - Ecowater EPS 1000

The Ecowater EPS 1000 is part of the water filter test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, water filter models like the EPS 1000 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Lead removal:
Lead removal indicates the percentage of lead that was removed by each filter.

Chloroform removal:
Chloroform removal rates the percentage of chloroform removed. A filter's ability to remove chloroform predicts how well it will remove organic compounds as well as byproducts created by disinfectants used by water systems.

Flow rate:
Flow rate is how fast a gallon of water filtered through the cartridge. The criteria for flow rate scores differ between different types of filters. Faucet-mount, countertop, and undersink models have the same criterion; carafes and reverse osmosis models each have their own.

Comment:
This is a follow-up review of my earlier comment. It's time to replace the filter. I was told by the dealer that installed it, that they don't service or sell the unit anymore, even though it's on their web site. They said they would call me back with info on getting the filter. They didn't. Can't get info on the cost of the replacement filters. Mfg web site is worthless. Googled for pricing info. No luck. I'm putting in a new sink, and getting rid of this unit. I'll stay with my refrigerator filtered water. It's really too bad, because I was very satisfied with the water quality. Case of a company that doesn't know how to communicate with it's customers.

Comment:
Our local Dayton Ohio dealer sold this installed for 2/3 of the CR buy price.
Quoted significantly lower cost for replacement filters than CR.
After reading the CR ratings, I was initially leaning toward the Shaklee OTC unit. The price quoted for that unit does not include the expensive filter.

This Ecowater under the sink unit cost me far less (installed), than the Shaklee OTC unit. Yearly filter cost will be slightly higher than the Shaklee unit. Very easy to change the filter. No tools. Just twist off.
