About - GE GXSL55R (Home Depot)

The GE GXSL55R (Home Depot) is part of the water filter test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, water filter models like the GXSL55R (Home Depot) are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Lead removal:
Lead removal indicates the percentage of lead that was removed by each filter.

Chloroform removal:
Chloroform removal rates the percentage of chloroform removed. A filter's ability to remove chloroform predicts how well it will remove organic compounds as well as byproducts created by disinfectants used by water systems.

Flow rate:
Flow rate is how fast a gallon of water filtered through the cartridge. The criteria for flow rate scores differ between different types of filters. Faucet-mount, countertop, and undersink models have the same criterion; carafes and reverse osmosis models each have their own.
About This Brand

GE is the major brand in under-sink water filters, with cartridge and reverse-osmosis types available. Its carafe models offer a filter-change indicator with an electronic LED, sliding lid integrated into cover, self-leveling spout, and low-battery LED indicator. All brands are offering products with more-ergonomic handles. You'll find GE filters at Home Depot stores nationwide.

Pros
Easy To Swap Filters
Inexpensive filters
Water Quality Very Good
Cons
Flimsy Filter Holder
Best Uses
Drinking water
Comment:
Previous owners of our house installed this system with a different faucet. We have had zero issues. As others noted, the filter holding housing is a little flimsy, but if you are careful, you won't have any issues. The filters are easy and inexpensive to change. I write the date on the side so I know the next time to change them - the light on the included faucet only indicates 6 months time, not actual usage.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Comment:
I have used this unit every day for all drinking water over the past 7 years. The included faucet is attractive and durable. The filters are easy to change and the electronic filter monitor works well. It may take a few seconds longer to fill the kettle, but that is not a significant issue.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
