About This Brand
This brand, known for its durability and dependability, went through an entire line and design change in 2007. Weber is known for its quality products in the midpriced to high-priced categories, and grills that feature coated cast-iron and stainless-steel-rod cooking grates and long-warranty stainless-steel burners. (The company offers a natural-gas version for most of its grills.) Weber recently introduced an infrared-searing station on some of its grills, updated its Q line of portable grills, and added colors to its entire lineup. Weber grills are available at many retailers nationwide. Grills range in price from $130 to $3,000. Note that Weber acquired Ducane about four years ago.
Features & Specs - Ducane Affinity 4100 Series
Stainless-steel grates Primary cooking grates made of stainless-steel are generally sturdier than those made of coated steel and resist rust even without a porcelain coating.
Stainless-steel grates
No
Coated-cast-iron grates The grill's primary cooking grates may be made of porcelain coated cast-iron, which generally sears meats better and keeps grilling temperatures more consistent than grates made of porcelain coated steel. The porcelain coating usually makes such grates easier to clean than other surfaces, and the grates should resist rust as long as their porcelain coating isn't chipped.
Coated-cast-iron grates
No
All or mostly stainless Includes more than just a panel or other trim. Based on our limited tests, nonmagnetic stainless is less likely to corrode.
All or mostly stainless
No
Long-warranty burners While burners remain the grill's most-replaced part, most are warranted for only 3 to 5 years. Better burners are covered for 10 years or more.
Long-warranty burners
No
Side burner A side burner, which resembles a gas-stove burner and has its own heat control, is handy if you want to cook vegetables or sauce without leaving the grill. A side burner could also be an infrared burner used for searing.
Side burner
No
Infrared burner Gas burner that uses infrared technology (ceramic burner, plates and screens, or troughs as some examples) for cooking. An indirect flame is used for cooking food. Burner can be located as the main burner, side burner, rotisserie burner, or any combination of burners.
I have owned the Affinty 4100 for 3 years now. I was excited to get this because of the very long history of high-end grills made by Ducane over the years. Ducane is owned by Weber, but don't expect to get a Weber when you open the box. The overall build is somewhat better than the typical big-box brand grills, but it is significantly below most Weber standards. I owned a Weber for 25 years, so I am quite aware of the expectations of a Weber.
Overall the heat distribution is very even across the entire surface. There are no real hot spots. The heat level is easily controlled and we usually have little problems with flare-ups or burning. I cook everything on this grill and everything comes out great. I really does cook very well.
The burners are heavy stainless steel and so far after 3 seasons, they still work like new. The heat distributors are porcelain coated steel and they did not last long at all. Within 2 months these were popping and rusting. I just ordered a new set of stainless steel bars to replace these. They should have been SS to begin with. I called to complain about this at the time and Weber offered a new set, but I declined. I just wanted them to know that these parts are very substandard. The grill surface is porcelain and that has held up very well. It is fairly easy to clean. Just heat then up after taking the food off and then brush them off.
Cleaning the underside of the burners is a chore. The parts are hard to get out of the way and it is hard to get it all cleaned out. Fortunately, this only needs to be done a couple of times a year.
The Ducane website is of no value at all other than telling you where you buy a grill. They don't even have contact information to get hold of them. You can not get parts through them. Parts are available through 3rd parties - grillparts.com.
Overall, this is a good grill. It works very well everything that I put on it. While I have had it for 3 years, I know that it will not last anywhere near as long my old Weber.

Comment:
Grill is fantastic. I have slow cooked ribs, chicken and sausage utilizing indirect heat. When starting up it heats up very quickly. Searing steaks is a pleasure. No flameups and food is prepared perfectly. I had one of the Weber models previously and this model compares very favorably at a much cheaper price. One of the best purchases I have made.
