First Look: Lands’ End no-iron dress shirt
This new spin on wash-and-wear clothing looks good all day long

Lands' End no-iron dress shirt
SHARP DRESSER   Although it's a no-iron shirt, this Lands' End pinpoint doesn't come up short on comfort.
Name of product. Lands' End Men's Traditional Fit Button-Down No Iron Pinpoint Shirt

Price we paid. $39.50

Date of Consumer Reports magazine full report. March 2007

What it is. A 100 percent cotton men's dress shirt with button-down collar and front pocket. It comes in balsam, blue, butter, lake blue, light blue, pink, and white; color choices might differ between the Lands' End Web site and retail stores, including the company's locations and Sears stores nationwide. The shirt is available in neck sizes from 14 1/2 to 20 and in sleeve lengths from 32 to 38. (Tall sizes cost $44.50.)

What we liked. Lands' End says these shirts will stay wrinkle-free for at least 50 washes. In our tests, they retained their good looks all day, holding sharp creases on the sleeves. The fabric has the drape and unadulterated feel and comfort of pure cotton. Years ago, no-iron shirts tended to feel stiff and rough, and a common complaint was that the fabric did not breathe, causing wearers to perspire more.

What we didn't like. To prevent shirts from wrinkling, you need to pull them out of the dryer and place them on hangers immediately after the cycle stops--no letting a load of laundry sit once it's dry.

Our initial take. These Lands' End shirts are a nice improvement on the wash-and-wear clothing of yesteryear and managed to look freshly ironed at the end of the day. A test panelist who got stuck in gridlock traffic in a hot car on a humid summer afternoon reported that his shirt fared a lot better than he did.
