John Deere makes and markets one of the best-selling lines of lawn tractors at retail. John Deere lawn tractors are fully featured and have deck widths from 42 to 54 inches. Most models have hydrostatic drive and Briggs & Stratton engines. John Deere lawn tractors are sold at dealers, Home Depot, and Lowe's. The company markets a small line of three very similar lawn mowers through dealers and at Lowe's. Those mowers are also available in a California-emissions version. All models feature rear-wheel drive, a 21-inch, and a Briggs & Stratton engine and are priced from $400. John Deere also markets a line of garden tractors and zero-turn riders.

After much research I purchased a JD X310 from a local dealer. The tractor was delivered on a Thursday 12/20/2012 and I never got a chance to use it due to grass cutting season being over, the tractor registered one hour on the meter and was parked in my garage. Two days after delivery I noticed a puddle under the transmission and the resivoir registered half full. I contacted the dealer who came and picked it up the following WED after X-Mas and the tech told my wife that John Deere sometimes pinches the O rings when building the transmissions at the factory and that I should have it back within a day or two. One week later I call the dealer and they tell me that they had to order a whole new transmission and that it will be ready next Tuesday. I hope that this is not an indication of what is to come. I would like to recognize the John Deere dealer for their support regarding the fast response and the fact that they are replacing the transmission with a new one. I hope that this is an isolated incident as I would like to think that John Deere builds a quality product. I cannot recommend this mower until I actually use it.
