About This Brand

Craftsman is one of the market leaders in lawn mower and tractor sales. Most of the models in the Craftsman line are made by Husqvarna. Craftsman lawn tractors run the price spectrum from gear-drive models priced at about $1,000 to fully-featured hydrostatic drive units that cost more than $2,000. Most Craftsman lawn tractors feature Briggs & Stratton engines, and the 42-inch-deck models are among the most popular. The majority of Craftsman lawn mowers are gas powered, but the company offers a corded electric and an electric rechargeable model. Most models feature either a Honda or Briggs & Stratton engine and have side-discharge, rear-bag, and mulching modes. Craftsman also markets a line of garden tractors and zero-turn riders. Craftsman products are sold at Sears, Kmart, and online at Sears.com.

Comment:
Shopping for a new push mower for the small jobs around the yard. Have a riding mower for the main yard, about an acre. When I read a review that spoke about the front wheel issue, I had to go and see what mower I already have. Sure enough, it is this Craftsman and the reason I'm having to replace it is the front wheel adjustment issue another reviewer brought up. The wheels are loose, so the mower front tends to drop. I wasn't watching closely when it happened, the low cut doesn't kill the grass. This is the second time I've had to replace a mower because of this, and I'm 99% sure the previous one was a Craftsman, too.
It starts great, cuts easy, isn't too heavy and has been very reliable. But you can ruin a lawn with a mower that drops too low and you shouldn't have to constantly watch for this and constantly adjust it. I felt compelled to warn others. Guess I'll keep searching.

Front Wheels Should Disqualify

Pros
Easy to Push & Steer
Cons
Wheel Height Adjustment
Best Uses

Comment:
BEWARE of the Craftsman models with these front wheel height adjusters. They regularly fail. Suprised that did not disqualify it as a best buy. If you use one of these push mower for any trimming work in or around trees, the front wheels often drop all the way down. The plastic side discharge director is a piece of junk too, frequently falling off when mowing under shrubs, and regularly getting clogged with heavy mowing.

Do not recommend.

Comment:
Its been very reliable, I've replaced spark plugs and muffler and had it sharpened once. To mulch the yard has to be dry, if its damp I'll put the side chute on
