Four-cycle engine Uses straight gasoline and doesn't require an oil/gasoline mixture, as do the more common two-cycle engines used on most trimmers.
Would not start when I tried to use it the 6th time. Still under warranty. I called Troy and they gave me a local place to take it to for repair. The repairman said we don't work on those. A call back to Troy wanted me to take it to another repair facility 30 miles away. A conversation with Troy said yes they expect me to drive 120 miles (two round trips) to get it repaired if that is what it takes I went back to Lowe's where I purchased it and they offered to get an estimate to repair. Do not buy unless you can afford $40+ per use and then throw away. Very poor after the sale support!

[...].Out of the box and assembled within 15 minutes per good instructions.Oiled and gassed.Fired on the first try - following the directions handily located on the engine cowl.Comfortable mesh back-pack with padded straps.BUT...pretty tepid performance. Read the Consumer Reports article and chose this as best combination of performance and price - decent value. Replacing a Green Machine from 1983 - which NEVER required servicing and finally just quit (Jeez - 27 years of service and the darn thing gives out - can't anybody build anything anymore?).The Green Machine would blow shingles off your roof. The Troy-Bilt produces a zephyr by comparison - kind of like a hair dryer on high. But for non-commercial, residential use, it's OK.According to the specs, this one produces up to 150 mph. Sorry, that just ain't true. Again, it's OK.Also, it's 4-cycle and fear that the convenience of not mixing the oil and gas is outweighed by having to check the oil level all the time - at least until I get a sense of how long a full oil tank lasts. Overall, it's OK.
