I bought this trimmer approximately 18 months ago and have used it only a handful of times since then. It replaced a different brand of electric trimmer that I had used for years with no problems. At the beginning of this summer, I tried using the Black & Decker one and it would not start (it died almost exactly at the same time as a newer B&D fan that I had purchased...not a good sign). So often, reviews come in shortly after products are purchased. To me, the real test is how well the product lasts over time. In the case of this trimmer, it's another example of a [*]-made product (as was the fan) that flunks the durability test big-time.

This machine eats an insane amount of line. I bought the preloaded spools to insert, because restringing the dual-string head can be a pain - particularly if you're in the middle of working on the yard. The last two spools broke in the middle, never had that happen before, but probably not to be unexpected since almost everything is plastic. The autofeed just keeps feeding line and cutting it off, at one point I watched little pieces of line just kept coming off the machine until the spool went empty - that autofeed feature is the single worst component of the trimmer. When edging you push the button and rotate the housing, but you can't see and control where the head is in relation to your sidewalk - and being a dual string head you end up messing up the straight line and taking gouges out of the turf. This should be a single line trimmer and do something about the feed system. I'm writing it off as a bad experience and buying a Stihl.

You will purchase this trimmer 3-4 times over in the amount of spool-lines necessary. It is virtually impossible to get through a complete spool without some tangaling of the line. Mine finally wrapped around the shaft and burned up the motor.
