The big news this year has been the arrival of LCD and plasma TVs that can display lifelike 3D images when you view content from 3D Blu-ray discs or broadcasts while wearing special 3D glasses. Of course, they also display regular (2D) content, which doesn't require you to wear the glasses. You'll probably watch mostly 2D for a while, until more 3D content arrives. Most 3D TVs cost $2,000 and up, but watch for lower-priced sets, including the $1,000 Samsung PN50C490 50-inch plasma (which we haven't tested yet). For more on 3D, see 3D TVs show quality differences (available to subscribers).
