We asked 25,079 subscribers who recently bought the pizza chains' pizza, chicken chains' grilled or roasted chicken, sandwich chains' subs, and Mexican chains' tacos and burritos this question: On a scale of 1 to 10, from least delicious to most delicious you've ever eaten, how would you rate the taste?
The tables reveal that some house specialties came close to our readers' standards for excellence, but CiCi's Pizza, Del Taco, Little Caesars, Sbarro, and Taco Bell earned significantly lower scores than most chains for the foods that best define them. Domino's, which with fanfare changed its core recipe in December 2009, seeking a better pie, came in fifth place, behind Papa Murphy's and other pizza joints. KFC chicken was rated less tasty than chicken from most rival chains.
Among burger chains (which we covered in October), burgers at In-N-Out Burger and Five Guys Burgers and Fries were standouts. Burger King and Wendy's fared better than McDonald's, whose burgers ranked lowest of all.
