Ethanol and other additives can distort the fuel cap and fuel may spill, posing risks of fire and burns.

Products: 2.3 million trimmers, brushcutters, KombiMotors, hedge trimmers, edgers, clearing saws, pole pruners, and backpack blowers with fuel caps that don’t require tools to open. They were sold nationwide from July 2002 through May 2011 for $190 to $650.

What to do: Return product to a Stihl dealer for a free repair. Call 800-233-4729 or go to www.stihlusa.com for model numbers.

 

Ryobi ¼ sheet sanders

Ryobi 1/4 sheet sander

Pieces of fan can break off and be ejected, posing a risk of cuts to user.

Products: 300,000 model S651D sanders sold from June 2005 through August 2010 for $30.

What to do: Stop using the sander and call the importer, One World Technologies, at 800-597-9624 or go to www.ryobitools.com for a free replacement.

 

GE food processors

GE food processor

Safety interlock system can fail, and machine might smoke or catch fire.

Products: 255,000 14-cup food processors sold at Walmart and Walmart.com from September 2009 through February 2011 for $50.
