'08-'09 Mazda3/Mazdaspeed3
Cars manufactured from Jan. 7, 2008, through Nov. 28, 2008, may have a bent ground terminal in the windshield wiper motor, which could lead to the loss of wiper function. In bad weather that could increase the risk of a crash.
Models: 103,300 '08-'09 Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3 vehicles.
What to do: Dealer will install a part to remedy the problem. Call Mazda at 800-222-5500 for details.

TrimmerPlus edger attachments
The steel shaft can break during use and the edger blade can detach, hitting the user and those nearby.
Products: 14,500 MTD TrimmerPlus edger attachments model 41AJLE-C092 LE720 sold online, at Lowe's, and at other hardware and home-improvement stores from March 2011 through April 2011 for $70.
What to do: Stop using the edger and call MTD at 888-848-6038 or go to www.mtdproducts.com for a free replacement.
Calphalon knife sets
The tips of the 8-inch slicing knife and the 8-inch bread knife models KNS17C and KNS21C can protrude through the bottom of the wooden block holder.
Products: 217,000 17- and 21-piece Contemporary Cutlery knife sets sold online and at retailers from August 2007 through May 2011 for $200 to $300.

Big Lots metal futon bunk beds
Children can become entrapped when the futon and metal frame are lowered from the seated to the flat positions. The space between the last ladder rung and the mattress is also too small, allowing a child's body but not his head to pass through, posing a risk of head and neck entrapment.
Products: 30,000 metal futon bunk beds model BFB1008 sold at Big Lots from January 2009 through April 2010 for $200. A child died when his head and neck were entrapped in the bunk bed.
